Subject: Higher rate torsion rods

Throwing this out for comments.
I've been looking for some stiffer front torsion bars for my 2004 Dakota for some time now, and finally found some. They live in a 2000 Durango in a local wrecking yard. They're the same length and everything and would slip right in. My rods are 28mm diameter, and these Durango bars are 30mm: ((30/28)to the 4th power)x100 gives 131.8, or roughly 30% stiffer.
I was hoping the 34mm '05 Durango bars (200% stiffer) would fit, but they're also 3" longer. I looked to see if I could relocate my torsion rod anchor crossmember aft 3 inches, but it's all welded in, there's no frame reinforcement 3" back, and there's way too much other stuff in the way.
The bars will cost $20 each if I pull them, so it's not a real expensive experiment.
What do you all think?

A thicker bar isn't necessarily a stiffer bar. You have to look at the spring rates. Dakotas were available with two different torsion bar spring rates 1450lbs and 2000lbs. Physically they were the same size, the difference was in the alloy.

The larger bars are likely stiffer - that's the way it is with the old mopar muscle cars.
