 Subject: help me break into my dak

hey everybody, long time since i've been on here, how's it going? while ago i locked my keys into my truck. anybody know a way i can get in there without having to pay a locksmith...i don't have a sliding window in the back and i don't want to bust my window just to get my keys. i did the same thing about two weeks ago, except that time the truck was running and the heater was on half blast...it was an emergency so i had to call a locksmith. anyway, i don't have a slim-jim rod either. i was thinking i could do something with the handle, but i dont know. any help is appreciated. if it comes down to it, i'll call a locksmith, but i really hate to have to do that. i tried to do a search, but it seems that you have to be an official member to search now...which i think is BS...what happened to the good ol' days like it was a year ago. anyway, thanks again.

If you have time, just bring your VIN to the dealer. he should be able to cut you another key.

Got a couple of wood wedges or rubber door stops ? Wedge the door frame open at the top rear and go fishing with a coat hanger - easiest if you have power locks.

As WWW said, take your VIN and proof of ownership of the vehicle to a dealer, they can cut a key for you. If you have had the vehicle in for service at the dealer, they may cut a key using their records as proof of ownership, call first and ask.

Then, go to walmart with a buck and have a key made without
the rubber head and keep it in your wallet. While you are there,
get 2 keys cut, and leave one inside your home.
Cheep insurance.

oh come on! Who only has one key to their car? After locking my key in my car once I had extras made and carry one in my pocket everytime I drive my truck. Also have an extra one in my wallet just in case. LOL

Try your local police department. I know that in my town they open vehicles for free witha slim jim. You just have to sign a paper saying that if they damage your locking mechanism they aren't liable. But I was a police explorer for 5 years, and I never saw one get damaged.

The foam rubber seals at the back of the door are really easy to beat with a coat hanger. Send the hook part through the seals up to the door handle on the inside, hook it and pull until door unlocks -- obviously this happens before the door itself opens, so you don't have to go the extra mile with the coat hanger. Your dealer can cut you a new key if you've got your VIN# and some proof of purchase (or insurance card).

I've seen lots of vehicles damaged by slim jims - linkage knocked off - and now with many vehicles having side air bags that can be triggered too, a variant of the method I explained is usually preferred. The pros use a wedge that can be inflated with a small hand pump.

I once had a Volvo with power locks. Tow truck guys could'nt break in and usually had to spring the door and do the coathanger thing.
Now I carry keys in each pant pocket.
