A little new here been reading posts and gotta say they have help a lot with my own truck. Have a 01 dakota sport RC 5 spd 3.9. The problem is the auto in a quad cab and since u dont have the 3.92 gears u most likey have 3.55's which are great with a five speed not so good with auto. As far as i no any V6 dakota with an auto has a problem with grades. id imagine a qaud cab is worse because of more wieght. My dads CC 5spd V6 has no problems and runs with my RC so does his girlfriends V6 auto CC but that has 3.92s. All 3 have the factory tire and handling package and BFgoodrich all terrain t/a's so i doubt its ur tires. I have had friends complain about the same problems with hills with a V6 auto so my guess is its normal because of the weight of ur truck. As for the four wheel drive thing i have no clue but mine if i crank the wheels all the way and try to move any way it feels like im trying to overpower the E brake. Now I maybe completely wrong. tought it might help. I no im young at only 19 so please dont rip apart the new guy just wanna learn about my truck. So thanks for even reading what a kid has to say. And thanks for even creating a site like this so i can get help figuring out whats wrong with my truck.

Hey SRP,

Ever thought about buying a Nissan Frontier??? And you can still keep the V6 but with more power and better fuel economy.

Even though mine is actually a club cab, not a quad cab, what
your saying about the gear ratio is what I'm thinking is wrong
with my truck.

Seems to me that the 3.92's should have been required with the
oversize tires option. Mine has the 3.55's, but the tires are the
oversize option for the 16" wheels. I think the extra height has
reduced the effective gear ratio. Fine on a nice flat highway,
terrible for hilly terrain. Guess I'll have to move to Florida.

Your comment about the 4 wheel drive trying to overpower the
e-brake is my truck to a T. Not enough power to move.

As my subject title, it's a disappointment. As skikir stated, 18
years of R & D and the truck has less power & less mpg than an
87 Jeep with a straight six.

Go figure.
