| New torque converter install, problems spacing? IP: Logged
Message: Hey Im Geano and im not no seasoned mechanic but,
I have decent knowledge in general. My problem is,
I installed a new torque converter in my 93 dakota
LE 3.9l 4x2. I am FAIRLY SURE it is seated right.
Iwas driving for about 2 weeks no problems
however! I started hearing a
clicking/ticking/clunking sound and knew it was
torque converter. I am imagining it might not be
in the trans pump correctly. When I opened up my
inspection plate in trans, I took off the bolts
and without bolts the torque converter spins
completely free and when you push it back the air
gap is 3/16th. From my understanding I pull to
torque converter forward and bolt the bolts in
opposites like bolt #1 tighten then bolt #3, then
bolt #2 and then #4. something like that but when
I do that the torque converter comes all the way
forward. Isn't there supposed to be least a 1/8th
gap after the 4 bolts are tightened? Are the bolts
not supposed to be all the way in? Im very loss
because when i try to leave space it makes bad
noise and when i tighten them completely its less
noise almost drivable but still a ticking/clicking
type sound, like a bolt smacking metal. Very
Confused
