Kicking the gas tank? That's a new one on me. I have never seen a fuel pump just die like that. Usually you'll see issues first like missing/rough idle when your fuel level is below a certain mark.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay? It's in the PDC under the hook. Should have several relays there that are the same. ABS (if you have it), and I think A/C too.

I had a similar issue that turned out to be a bad ground at the pcm. Sometimes it would start and sometimes not. When the truck starts , let it idle and open hood and tap the PCM. If it dies, probably a gound.

Yeah, my fuel pump in my Daytona died just like that, right at the pumps after filling - no prior warning at all. It can happen.

Your spelling is atrocious. Spend more time in school and less under the hood.

Every fuel pump I have had go bad went bad all at once no warning at all.

If you get one that causes missing, low pressure, etc, you are lucky.

The motor usually gets a dead spot. That's why KICKING it can make it work again. I've kicked my tanks before. I think it worked ONCE. Mostly on Chevy work vans.

Did you hear the pump kick on and still not start? Dont our trucks have some sort of "roll over valve" that could have got stuck and came loose with the kick to the tank ?

I am just as impressed with your command of the English language. There are no hanging prepositions, the proper use of adjectives, clear and concise sentences. You write as if you are talking. Give the guy a break, how many times did you run your post through the spell check before you copied and pasted it?

You know mike cc, I was thinking the same thing...this is a dak/problem solving forum, not a grammar forum!! Did you run through any water or mud before you had these problems? Like was stated before, check the connector/harness to the pump module (it might have dirt or contamination is it). If you have a multimeter/ohmmeter, do a resistance check of the wiring going from the engine compartment to the fuel pump. There is also the notorious splice about 5 inches from the fuse box that has given people problems in the past. If you don't have a haynes/chilton's manual, use daddio's help site:

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

most likely it is your fuel pump. im not a real mechanic but i work in garage and almost every fuel pump we have had to replace failed w/o warning (or possible the customer was too dumb to notice, im sure there were a few like that). Everything that you have checked out so far is obviously the first things to try, but when all else fails, you probably will be dealing with the pump. When you say you kicked the tank and it started working, that doesn't really surprise me. A fuel pump obviously has a motor and sometimes when motors fail, you can hit them and knock some of the carbon build up loose and they will work for a little bit longer. The same goes for motors that fail in power windows. If you get one stuck, and you tap it gently with a hammer, you can usually get quite a few more days out of it. sometimes even longer. So kicking the tank wasn't a bad idea.

I'm have the same problem with turning, but no start. I seem to be getting fuel because when I relieve the pressure at the button valve on top of the fuel rail, gas squirts out about a foot or so. Also, the strong smell of a seemingly flooded throttle body might be a clue. I am not getting spark from the coil. I spent the $20 and installed a new one. I have also checked all the relays including the Auto Shut Down and the Fuel Pump. Tricky....

You know I am one who tries to spell everything correctly.

But as long as the internet has been around when it comes to chatting in IRC or forums the NORMAL thing is to say what you have to say with as many short cuts as possible. Even if it's mis spelled people get the idea and those of us with a NORMAL brain can figure out what the author meant just fine.

Why people need to troll a forum to be the grammer police is just stupid. Especially on one like this that does not have a preview screen before posting.

That said. One thing about fuel pumps is the relay will power it only briefly when you first turn the key on then stop. Then once you crank the engine it powers the pump again.

So one thing you can do is lean out of the truck as you turn the key to the on position without cranking and listen for the pump to "whine" for a few seconds. Turn it off then back on if you have to.

If you don't hear anything chances are it is the pump. It COULD be a relay or something in the wiring, but more often fuel pumps just die.
