Subject: "no bus" on odometer
IP: Logged

Message:
The other day I had an amp and speakers installed (mtx thunderforms), and when it was all done my truck (2001 dakota)would start then die after a few seconds, then my gauge lights came on and the words "no bus" is being displayed on the odometer. All the guy did was add a wire to the battery, did this fry something? Is there a way to reset the computer? I had to have it towed home and the service department/dealers open on monday but I already know they want some major $$$ :( anyone know what that no bus means?

A "NO BUS" means the the PCM stoped responding.

This happned to me and I am sorry to say that the PCM was trash. If the shop that installed the amp shorted a wire it is possiable that he shorted out the PCM and there is no way of fixing it.

If what Brian is saying is true. Document it and have the dealer servivce people document it. I would then get the installer to reimburse you.

It could be a gauge problem or a bus communications problem as well, broken wire. Fun stuff to track down.

Yep... PCM is dead. Had that happen to me once already. It was replaced under warranty.

To heel with the warranty ! Get the dealer to document it and go back to the place you has the amp installed
