How many cats should an '03 quadcab with a 5.9 have? My truck had aftermarket exhaust installed when I bought it 6 months ago. Just noticed last weekend that it only has one cat and always thought that the exhaust stunk pretty bad. It has passed PA emissions though. I assume that there were 3 cats from reading posts about people removing the 3rd one, or is that just certain engines or years?

2001+ 5.9L V8's have three catalytic converters. There is one small pre-cat in each downpipe, and a primary cat after the y-pipe.
There is 4 oxygen sensors, one before and one after each pre-cat, if you remove the pre-cats and go with mid/long tube headers you will either need to relocate the downstream O2 sensors or replace them with SIMM boxes.

I have 3 indoor cats and one that lives outdoors. I feed the one outside just enough to piss him off so he will stay around and catch moles and mice. BTW he pisses all over my tires.

I have five cats.
One each side of the engine in the Y pipe, and three in the house that go meow.
My rig is a Canadian edition 2004 Dak QC 4x4 with 4.7. It has no third cat ahead of the muffler like some others. Am happy it doesn't. If it was legal I would run with no cats, just keep the pet ones. I am keeping the exhaust stock for mpg too, getting up to 24 mpImp.gal./ 21 mp US gal. in the summer, on the hwy.
