Hello, how about little old me?

I've had 'em in my '99 for about 3 years now; first with the stock headlight assemblies, and now with those "diamond clears" you see on Ebay (I think DEPO is the company that makes 'em for everybody). No, repeat NO problems for me with either lamps or wiring or fuses-- though the first set of bulbs I got was a dud :-). Even had an add-on relay harness (also sold by APC) for a while; the headlight switch panel seemed a little cooler to the touch but, as I said, no problems. That 97-03 models have separate left and right fuses and circuits doesn't hurt! With a little math, the amperage draw increase per circuit is small. Also, I have tried ALL brands of bulbs (even Silverstars) and none compare to the APC 80/100 watt bulbs (though an HID system is in my future plans :-) I've gotten several compliments!

I'd like to know if anyone has run BOTH low and
high beams at the same time? If so, did the bulb
overheat and blow or any plastic melt downs?

Try holding the brights on while on a country
road sometime. WOW want a difference!

Just asking guys...

Hey, OBIO3!

The harness was, agreeably, a great improvement! When I was upgrading to new, custom-made (by me) battery and ground cables (everything is now 4 gauge and 1 gauge-- AND soldered), I removed it in the interests (fits) of simplicity. Relays to mount and extra wiring to run and all... This from a guy who wants an HID kit!

P.S.: Has anyone ever installed/used/had experience with these HID kits?

Just for what it may be worth > I was in a web site (NEVER MADE NOTE OF IT) but was government and one part was saying there now working on some law changes in headlights > Talking federal so all wilL be effected > The HID KITS and or none factory installed HID lighting is at the top of the list to make ilegal in the united states > This also effects Canada as the 2 countries are intwined in headlight restrictions > Also being looked at real hard are the so called white lights > It all has to do with GLARE off some roads, wet roads, snow , ice and road signs not to mention fog > Bottom line is, changes are coming real soon and the end results are not wrote in stone as yet

I used to jimmy the hi/low beam switch so both would be ON.
I stopped 'cause it burned-out the on/off switch, the one you pull out to activate the head lights.

The same thing happened (burned switch) in my wife's old Tauras.

I have 100/80 on my 2002 QC. I have also installed Hella spot lights on my bumpers that are on a seperate switch but only come on with the OE fog lights. I feel that when you put on the high beams you loose too much lighting around in front of the vehicle where you really need it. So instead of putting on my high beams I turn on the spot lights so now I have the two 80 watt low beams, the two 55 watt fog lights, and the two 55 watt Hella spot lights. More than enough lighting to see a mile or so up the highway.

I don't know how much light your putting out but it sounds like way to much for blacktop driving. I was more interested in the 100/80 lights for off road reasons. I'm well aware what driving lights do and fog lights. My evperiance tells me a truely good set of fogers are the best all around extra light you can mount on a rig and there street legal besides. Just my personal opinion there.

I tried a set of 90/100's in my 1997 Dakota. It was REALLY bright and lit up the road great. The wire harness held up fine, but it messed up the plastic lenses a bit. Now the top of the lenses are a foggy brown on the inside and one lens melted a bit around the light bulb. Now water gets in it on one side.

Maybe it's because I am in Florida and it's warmer, but I wouldn't recommend the higher wattage in the plastic lenses because the extra heat was enough to melt mine... Just my $.02

FloriDak.. Your statement was what I was looking for. I had a feeling lens melt down might be a problem with the plastic. Also wonder if 90/100 rather then 80/100 had an effect. I wonder what year Dodge started using the glass lens and if glass ones are available aftermarket. Anybody know the answer to that? I'm going to try a surch on this. Thanks

Actually, it seems to me that unless you have sealed beam type headlamps, then you will always have PLASTIC lenses. I've never seen anything for the '97+ models that used a glass lens. '87-'96 guys are the only ones who can have glass lenses (IF their truck did not have the "aero headlamp" (composite) option) as far as I know...

But; personally, I would prefer glass over plastic in a heartbeat if I had a choice!

Purple ........ How long you been running the 80/100 bulbs in your rig and if I may ask what brand and type are they. Have you CLOSE EXAMINED your lenes to detect any brown or burn? FloraDak said his burnt but also said he used 90/100's unless that Was a miss print. I would suspect they would most likely burn on the 100 setting. Keeping in mind my main interest is off road so were talking slow driving conditions not allowing for much breeze to cool lenses. Lenses can be bought on line for as little as $27 plus change and shipping so not a real big deal to run test lights. At the same time I also suspect the cheaper priced lenses are just that. Cheaply made product. I want to thank you all and especially Purple for the come backs.

Hey, OBI03!

Got some part numers for ya!

The first set I bought was part no. 509007PW "Super White" from APC. These I used from summer '03 to about fall '04 (not sure). When one of them burned out I ordered another pair under that same number, only to receive 55/65 watt bulbs that were no different visually than Wagner BriteLites (another fave). After talking with APC I got the impression that they were no longer available from them due to DOT regs. Not giving up, I ordered a different number: 509007X "Xenon Super White". THESE were the ticket! The light is bright, pure, intense white! I've had the same pair ever since, so I think the first set had a dud in it. I have taken several opportunities to inspect the lenses AND wiring AND fuses (1 left, 1 right) and noted no burning or discoloration- ever! Not even with my new "Diamond Cut" headlamps bought off Ebay (which, by the way, have NOT leaked water, showed condensation, or discolored!)

Thanks everyone for reading my long posts, and I really appreciate the exchange that goes on between all here (that's why I became a paying member)! I'll gladly help anyone I can!

I have also run 80/100 headlights on my truck for about 2 yrs now with no problems on my stock headlights. I got mine from midnightmoose.

Purple, are those diamond cut headlights you are using those 1-piece ones with the bulb reflectors? I have seen those on ebay but am always a bit worried about quality with those things.
