Subject: Throaty Exhaust

Message:
Alright guys and gals,
I am looking for an exhaust system for my 97 kota 5.2L. The engine is pretty well stock and I have dual exhaust split right behind the cat. I want an exhaust system that gives my truck that low rumble. That throaty tone to it. Anybody have any recomendations for what to look at? And if so, anywhere there is a place to hear this?

Trust me! I put a Flowmaster 50 series delta flow on mine and it's sounds bad ass! When I was sitting it the shop waiting for them to finish welding it, I heard them fire it up and I could not help from smiling. I heard that exhaust and damn, that was it for me. Best sound I ever heard. It's real deep and sounds very aggressive. Trust me, go with the 50 series delta flow. You won't be sorry!

Check out the Flowmaster Super 40 muffler...sposed to be similar to the original 40 series but deeper (and quieter in the cab I think).

Yea right. The super 40 is for people that want to be heard miles away and piss off their neighbors. Super 40 is way too loud, unless you live in the country.

I have a 40 series on my Dak. I live in a residential area. My neighborhood is full of both old folks and young folks. I can set car alarms off if I drive past the cars at just the right RPM. I have yet to receive a single complaint from a neighbor (and my next door neighbor LOOOOVES to b*tch about the stupidest things)...nor have I ever been pulled over for it. Had it on for almost 2 years now.

My 1997 dodge dakota has the 5.2L. I have a full exhaust system that starts with edelbrock headers, custom Y-pipe, 2.5inch pipe, no cat., and a flow master 40 series single in dual out. It is really throaty. Before I did the entire exhaust system I just had the 40 series. It was loud and throaty. I tried a glass-pack, but they get real loud, but it is more like a high pitch scream at high rpm. Hope that helps you decide.

I have the 2 1/2" flowmaster super 40 with a turn down before the axle on my 96 318. It has a very oldschool sound to it. The sound of it when it first starts up is mouth watering. I can barely hear it once i get to a highway cruizing speed. But at WOT it sure does scream. IMO, I like the sound of my flowmaster over my old strait pipe setup. I also have a carsound, JBA Y-pipe, and gibson headers so that deffenitly adds to the sound.

If you want your truck to rumble I would go with a Flowmaster.

If you want it to pur, then go with a borla.

If you want it snap, crackle, and pop then just run strait pipes.

I have magnaflow and allthough its not as loud compaired to the flowmaster you get a little more performance than the flowmaster. My truck sounds mean, real low deep bass tone. perfect sound for an r/t

Eh I've got a dynomax ultra flow single in dual out. On my 03 4.7, I get nothing but compliments. Its a real deep rumble. If you've got an 8 I figure its only right that you should hear it at Idle, and it should growl when you start it up. I've got an airaid intake and superchips as well.

Thanks guys,
Sounds like alot of you like the 40 series flowmaster. Does anyone of a site that I could hear the system on a 5.2L? Lots of sites have the setup on a mustang of chevy. I know mopar sounds better than those!

I don't want my truck to be obnoxiously loud and rappy. I want that low rumble. That sounds like there is actually power! I don't want heads to shake as I drive by, I want them turn and nod their heads in appreciation!!

I'd have to say a bigger engine with the right size glasspacks does that job very well as well... at least in my opinion it does.

personally i cant stand the sound of a glasspack on anything. just sounds too raspy. i have a flowmaster 40 series delta flow w/single 3"in/dual 2.5" out run straight out the back. i also have a carsound cat as well. it sounds great and has been confused many times to be a v8. it has a great rumble and i think that the delta flow design elimenates the ricey sound for v6ers.
