As they say, all good things must come to an end. Today I bid a fond farewall to my trusty 1995 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab 4x4 3.9L auto.

I bought it in July 1998 with 39k miles. It now has 166k. The transmission and engine were original and never rebuilt. That's right, she lasted 10 years and 166k miles. Very dependable and only left me stranded along side of the road once when a pot head smoking a fattie driving a honda accord ran me off the road in the middle of a freaky snow storm - he said he was restless and could not sleep so he went for a drive. The fattie was still smoking in the ash tray. The 4 low couldn't handle the passenger side in 2 feet of snow in a steep ditch, the driver side on the ice covered road where the tires were not making 100% contact. Good thing it was about 500 yards across a field from home. Took my sister and brother-in-law about 45 minutes in a chevy 1500 4x4 to pull me in 4 low backwards 300 yards to where the ditch leveled to get back on the road.

My butt spent 127k miles in the drivers seat of the old gal. I sure will miss her and have memories of the good times that were had (can you say "landscaping"?).

And what happened to her? I traded her in on a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 4.7L auto. That's right, another Dakota! Not some taco, chebby or ford. MOPAR! The new one has 46k miles and I got a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty on her.

May V2 last as long as the original....

Wow, that's a sad story. But at least it has a happy ending. I don't know what I'm going to do the day my Dak can't go no more. LONG LIVE THE DAKOTA.

oh it was still going, I drove it to the dealer. I got a decent trade in for it considering the age and milage.

Yeah, it is night and day difference between the 3.9 and 4.7. I can beat more people off of the line now :)

Those magnum engines, they sure do take a beating and keep on running.

Unless you plan to mod and tweak it. ??

I'll still stop by here, though hopefully not because I have any problems! And yes, I'm already looking for a flowmaster and I'm torn between a toolbox or fiberglass bed cover.

Should i get the bed cover or toolbox? The truck has chrome rails on the bed, I kind of like the way it looks. they match the chrome steps.

I'd keep the bed rails. I have a set of black ones on mine (wish they were chrome though!) and it really sets off the vehicle. Personally, I have more use for a toolbox than a tonneau cover. So, depending on the length of your bed rails, you can either get an over-the-rail style toolbox that sits on the edges of your bed, or one that fits down inside your bed that you can bolt on from the bottom (there are some other ways to do it too I think). Either way, it sounds like you have a good looking truck! Post pictures sometime!

umm yeah, thanks for sharing there uhh.. BIG .. umm Ed?

I am missing a center cap, going to pick that up tomorrow. Today they detailed and filled it up.

The new one does lack under seat storage. Maybe I'll get a cover and a tool box. Who knows, plenty of time to decide.

Sorry Dan, I couldn't resist.

I lost one of the center caps on my 00 SLT right after it got inspected. I guess when they pulled the wheel to check the brakes it popped off.

I also have a 1995 Dakota with the 3.9L v6, but I have to say I'm sad you gave up on the 95 dakota so soon. My 95 Dakota just pasted 230000 miles today. Original engine and tanny also. The only thing that I've had to replace is a radiator(2 years ago) and a fuel pump(one year ago). I did just find out that I have a crack in the transfer case, so that will be replaced real soon. It's amazing what a reliable truck it has been.
