Went to rotate my tires and for the life of me I could not break loose the lugs on my left front wheel. I'm like what the F? Am I getting that out of shape? I go to the side of the house and find a 5'pipe to use as breaker bar and only then can loosen the fricken lugs on the left wheel. The front right side had three lugs too tight while the lugs on the rear wheels spun off with no problem. So I'm still thinking when and where when those lugs were put on. Then it dawned on me that the last time the front wheels were off is when I took it to the dealer to have the ball joints replaced under the recall. There would have been a drive by if the dealership had been opened. Mother F's

Haha... I think you should do the exact opposite to them... Go take off all their lug nuts while they are in work... Make Popcorn and wait until quitting time

Wanting to be lazy I took my truck to a shop to have the brakes inspected last week. Turned out they tried to screw me in price. They quoted me $700+ for 2 new calipers, new pads and 1 new rotor for the front and to adjust the drums on the back and of course to do a brake fluid flush and fill and bleed the brakes.

I laughed and told them that was too expensive. The guy I was talking to was the service manager. He asked if i had a quote from anywhere else and I told him no. He asked how can I know it was too expensive. I told him that I could get 2 new calipers for what they wanted to charge for 1 and that I checked around for parts already at local auto parts stores.

Anyways I went to do the work myself (got all the parts for about $160). I think he told the service tech to tighen down the lugs as much as possible because I could not break them with my air impact wrench which runs up to 270 lb/torque.

Those rat bastards. I thought they'd be decent since I purchased 4 tires from them. I guess not.

Its bad. Just think if you get aflat in the middle of nowhere and then can't get the lugs off. Talk about screwed, it could be a long night waiting for help, then an expensive tow truck.

They have those 500 ft lb air wrenches that slam the nuts on.

Most mechanics are good, but some are unhappy people that want to make others that way.

Dan.
If the nuts were that tight, you may want to consider that the bolts are stretched and weakened by the over-torque, and should be replaced. You don't want to lose a wheel in a turn.

Dealerships and large autoshops hate people that can actually work on there own cars. They think there gods because 90% of the people that own cars dont have 2 years of half ass tech school. ASE certification is a joke.

As far as tighten lugs, or anything else for that matter. I have 3 differnt size torque wrenchs. What can I say, Im a freaking about properly tighten things.

Dealership guys could careless about torquing anything. They get paid the same amount for the job whether they toque things or hammer it all on with a 500ft-lb impact gun. They dont care its not their car.

On a side note: NEVER bad mouth them while your car is still under their misguided care.

why I have my big breaker bar and my 260LB foot. havent found a lug yet I couldnt break loose. I dont liek using the lug wrench they put in the vehicle. my ranger one couldnt break loose the lugs on my ranger. but that big breaker bar and my foot broke them loose wit no prob.

they prob dod that so it warps your rotors and you come back in later on for new rotors. I was shocked to see the local walmart use a tourqe wrench on my wifes lugs on her car when we had the tires replaced.
