I have a 97, 3.9L, and lately when I started my truck, it would have a rough idle for only a couple of seconds. I just figured it was the warming up process. Well once it started getting colder, around 30, after I would shut off the truck, it would start fine, but the idle would drop right down and stall out. After driving a minute it would be fine though. My battery tested good, and my cables looked good from the outside. Since I took the battery cables off I figured I'd use a little sandpaper to clean them up, and then I noticed some crap on the inside of the cables. I've looked at a lot of batteries when I worked at autozone, and mine looked perfectly clean and fine, until I actually looked at the inside of the cable terminals. After I cleaned them, the truck starts great. Just wanted to post this for the people searching in the future.
