I'm getting discouraged and ready to drive my R/T into the ocean. Last night my heater wasn't getting hot. This morning I went through all the checks according to the factory service manual. The temp out of the lower vents is not getting as hot as published. Both heater hoses are getting hot which indicates the heater core is o.k. So I gain access to the heat/AC box inside the dash and pound on it with a rubber mallet and the temp starts to climb. I'm figuring the blend-air door is not closing all the way in the hot position. Anyone been this far that can offer some ideas/prayer?

I woudl try and back flush your heater core. a write up in v6 fourm. lots of people complaining about their heater not getting hot. when they try this it cleans out a lot of junk. their heater works fine. worth a try. after all doesnt cost all that much and might be a simple fix.

Great idea. So how do you do it? Take it to someone or can I pull the heater supply hose and blast to with a water hose?

So today I built a "jig" out of spare plumbing parts: I used pvc water fittings, a valve and a hose clamp. Then I pulled the return heater hose (right hose on top of the water pump on a 5.9L V8)and attached the jig. Next, I pulled the supply heater hose from the firewall (too hard to get to the clamp on the water pump). At first the fluid was clean and green antifreeze. Then this nasty rust colored junk blows out of the firewall and the water pressure comes out at twice the pressure. Hooked it all back up and boy is it toasty! Cost less than $15.00 total.

see sometimes its the simple fixes that work. prob if you took it to a garage they would of said heater core bad and thencharge you out the butt for a new one. glad your heater is fixed now.

Your exactly right! I'm so glad I spent $100 on the OEM shop manual. It has paid for itself several time over now.
