It will work for a while, longer if you're really nice to it and don't tow or haul.

I'm assuming you're asking about auto trannies?

yes, automatic transmissions. Also, the engine does not affect weather the truck is 2 or 4wd right? for example i have a 4x4 and the 318 i am getting was from a 2wd? the engine doesn't deal with that, correct?

justin \ the engine has noting to do with it.
the trannys will work its just not design to handle 300ft-lbs of torque so be easy on it.

and some mods to slow it down!

Actually, the A500, and the A518 that followed (and all the 42 and 46 variants) use essentially the same overdrive unit, and it was designed to handle a maximum of 400 ft/lbs torque input in stock form. All the units that have followed, if anything, are stronger in some aspects of durability--but I feel Dodge never did enough to address the issue. The problem comes from the overdrive section. The tolerances are very tight, making adequate lubrication a major issue, and a difficult one at that. This is why the addition of a tranny kit like the one from TransGo, Fairbanks, or Superior is so vital. These kits improve overall function, as well as increasing line pressure, which assists with lubrication, and this drastically improves the lifespan of the tranny. The "front three" gear section on the V6 trannys comes straight from the earlier tranny, the A904, and variants like the A998. These are proven designs, running in everything from Slant 6 Valiants to mid-80's 360-powered cop cars (meaning 4,000 lb cars). It'll hold fine if you take the necessary precautions.....synthetic tranny fluid, a good external cooler, the aforementioned tranny kit, and, as stated, don't tow in overdrive.

"gen1dak" good info, but i got a ?

with the trans kit on a trans with 152k miles stress parts or will the added lubrication make my trans last longer? i would only spend $90 on the whole thing and i'm tempted to put one in on my 44re, but i'm scare this could be a bad idea?

and some mods to slow it down!

The kit won't stress things so much as the spirited driving that comes with it. That being said, setting up for hard shifting, and then going out and redlining it will put more strain on any tranny. The kit actually improves the way the whole thing works, and increased lube always helps by reducing friction and the heat that comes with it. However, as you say, at 152K, you're bound for a rebuild soon. Best to hold off and either get one installed when it's rebuilt, or buy a tranny that's built by the pros and already has a kit as part of the package.
