Subject: Tailgate alarm!

Always bothered me that dodge didn't provide a lock or anything like that on the tailgate to deter theives so I tied my factory alarm into the tailgate also...

First order of buisness was to find a suitable switch. Looking at my girlfriends 96 Stratus, I picked up a door switch for it and went to work. Cost was $7.50 I think.

I mounted the switch just below the big rubber bumper in the bedside. Drill a 5/8" hole for the switch itself and then whatever hole neccesary for your mounting screw.

Run a single wire up to the cab. I drilled a small hole in the parking brake cable grommet so the wire fits snug (I drilled 1/8" but I don't remember what gauge wire). Here is where it differ's depending on what year truck you have.

On my '02 (any truck with the CTM in the kick panel, I think '00 and up) I spliced the wire from that switch into the tan wire on the center connector of the CTM. This wire is the signal for the drivers door switch. When you supply ground to this wire, the CTM thinks the drivers door is open which will trigger the alarm, assuming you set it.

On older years, I am assuming they use a door switch just like the one I used in the tailgate, you could splice into that wire and it should work fine.

This stuff is switched ground so its nice only having to run one wire...

Only costs a few bucks and a little time but REALLY adds to my peice of mind knowing that if anyone tries to take something out of my bed, they better not be scared of the alarm. :)

Enjoy!
