Brought my 02 dak. 4.7 to the dealer today cause the check engine light was on. They said i need 2 new o2 sensors. 200 dollars for parts 200 for labor. Im goin to get my truck back, buy the o2 sensors and do it myself. Any tips on how to install them or where to buy the sensors? Thanks in advance...

Dont buy them at autozone.. they sell crap.. if you have an Oreilly's around you... buy it from them and you shouldnt need any special tools.. i do believe one of them is on one of the headers.. and can be kind of tricky, the other is near the CAT, just unplug the wires for them, then get a wrench you should be all sat

Chris, how many miles on the truck? if it's under 50k the O2's may be under the federal emissions warranty.

I asked them and they said the o2's arent covered under the federal emmisions warranty, only the pcm and catylitic converters. I still need to look at my manual to make sure.
At autozone they wanted 130 each for OE ones and Im gettin OE ones from NAPA for 75 each. All i need is both downstream ones so they should be after the cat not near the header.

If you need to replace only the downstream ones, that could mean your cat is bad. Have that checked out before replacing the O2 sensors. Take your truck to a muffler shop and have them check the cat - don't worry, it's a free inspection. If your cat is bad, you may be able to go back to the dealer and have it replaced under warranty and make the case that the cat caused the O2 sensors to fail and have them replaced too.

here's a link to diy, shows how you can test the O2 sensors.
