I get 13-16 mpg regardless of how I drive. Lead foot hwy or city. It really doesn't vary much. This week I towed my boat 180 miles and the rest city miles. All this was done with the OD turned off. I got 14.5 mpg...so who cares about gas mileage. Just my opinion.

Whenever I tow anything or drive in the mountains I turn O/D off.

Some have reported better milage with the 4.7 with OD off. I was skeptical of this claim until I went to 4.10 gears and saw a slight increase in milage. Seems like the 4.7 can be more efficient at slightly higher revs.

I drive with the OD off around town when speeds are about 45 and below. as my truck bucks when the OD is on. as the rpm is under 1500. anything over 55 I turn the od on.

Dude, you do have a pretty tall rearend/tire ratio, I'd say that's most if not all of your problem.

On the other hand, the more I think about it, it should be dropping out of OD sooner, maybe check your kickdown (TV) cable adjustment?

I usually get 12MPG towing from Phoenix to Yuma letting it stay in OD, downshifting when IT needs to. The 5-45RFE does good holding correct gears without continuous downshifts, upshifts.

One time I tried it out of OD on that trip. Dropped all the way to 10MPG and barely made it there on one tank of gas!

Hey Catfish...I noticed the "very loud K&N fipk" at the bottom of your post. I thought it was just me. Mine is incredibly annoying at highway speeds especially when it downshifts. I can imagine what it's like towing a boat. I added the Dodge underhood pad and that helped a little. I guess the only option is to go back to stock or try some high dollar and questionable looking Dynamat under the hood pad.

Catfish-Trailer Boat magazine ALWAYS reccommends towing w/OD OFF. 4.7AWD(I have also)will dnshift
(towing in OD)at slightest hill anyway, so unless
you tow all flat- OD off better choice-less shifting-more pwr/torque avail,&less wear/tear,&
not much chg in gas mileage. Speaking of which,I can get 18+, but that is keeping @ 60-65 MPH (non-towing, OD ON) I'state(70-80)gets 15-16.
To get this, have removed mech.fan;CAT-BACK duals(3glasspaks)& CAI that does "roar" a bit due to open cone filter.(BUT only whn gettn down)Could you tell much diff w/SUPERCHIP ? Am considering as next upgrade...LMD(lvmydak) & thanks, Krellco

I have the AWD option and the SC is the best modification I've heard of around this forum. I almost never can get the tires to spin on pavement, I put the SC in performance mode and Super 93 Octane. My truck will flat out spin tires and jerk your neck going into 2nd gear. Spend the money!!!!!!!!!!! The 87 Octane is also seat-in-the-pants noticeable. Waiting on BodyLift. Next MOD exhaust, suspension lift and 4.56s. And by gosh I'll get those 35s on there!

when ever I'm in the city I always turn off the O/D just so the truck won't lug in slow traffic. But I don't think it matters if I keep it locked out.
