V6 1997 2wd dakota. (150,000 miles) Just had my screens replaced in all injectors and had the cat replaced. The truck was running like crap last week and that is why I had it all done. (The cat had been going for some time...it was rattling) They found all sorts of rust and junk in the injector screens. They put an in line fuel filter in for me. After that, it ran great for about 100 miles that night. Next morning, I noticed hesitation after the truck warmed up.

Now, it will run fine until the thermostat opens. Then, I see bad jerking hesitation once in a while ...feels like it is starved for fuel. The rpms drop and it feels dead. If I step on the gas hard (floor it), it stops for a while. It is very intermittant. Eventually, it will happen again. This all only happens after the truck is warm. I have a 165 thermostat in there right now. I put it in there 2 years ago after reading a string on this website.

Can someone help me figure out what is going on here?

FYI-

if you have to replace the injectors its usually easiest to go to the junkyard and get some decent ones. most yards charge 10 bucks a injector. even if a couple end up being bad its still a lot cheaper than payin someone else to do it.

I just had all the injectors rebuilt last week and the screens replaced in each one...It would be hard for me to believe that they are the culprit. I could be wrong...but that just does not sound logical to me. They were tested after being rebuilt and they all sprayed perfectly. (beautiful arc and cone shape...prior to being re-built, they were "peeing")

How about a TP sensor or something like that?

for one thing, the thermostat is way to cold. go to a 180* t stat. anything lower than that should through a code saying that it is running too cold for too long. also try replacing your plugs, wires, cap and rotor. also try using a half a can of seafoam down the tb and the other half can in the gas tank. then remove and clean you IAC on the back of the tb.

GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUTUP, AND HOLD ON
custom 48mm tb, tps @ .768, relocated IAT, 180 t-stat, autolite double platinum, taylor wires, flowmaster 40 delta flow single in/dual out, CAI

Mechanic friend of mine told me to replace fuel rails. The truck sat for 2 months without being driven back in the summer. He said rust is coming off the inside of the rails and clogging the injectors. I guess I will have to have the injectors re-built yet again....can you do that yourself?

Does that sound right to you?

I will replace the thermostat.

Paul, have you checked for codes? daveshotdakota is right on the tstat. if you have an Auto Zone nearby they can scan codes for free. post back what you find.

i hope you didn't pay much to get yoru injectors rebuilt. you could buy a set new from fiveomotorsports for about 200 bucks.

Been there done that. Put a clear in-line filter in before the fuel rail and youll know if it is the fuel line. If they didnt take the fuel rail off and clean it...you most likely have rust in the injectors.

Good luck.
