Havn't heard anything about that. But if tey do, I don't think I'll be running down to the dealer to buy one. I'd like to take a close look, but not sure about buying.

Fuel efficicency in the liberty wasn't that good, almost the same as the gas engine. Diesels are more expensive to buy and maintain, and they are heavy.

Around here (central CO) diesel and gas prices are about the same. I was in washington last week, and diesel was considerably higher than gas.

Diesel is pretty much the standard across the world for fuel for automobiles except in the US.

Diesel is actually CHEAPER to produce than gasoline. The price is set by supply and demand. There is a push to move all vehicles to diesel for emissions purposes. If there were more vehicles running it, it would drop in price, maintenance would drop, etc.

Diesel has more torque.

The fastest diesel land vehicle, maybe. The fastest land vehicle period is, IIRC, basically a wheeled jet-powered missle which went over Mach 1.

Well the liberty I was driving (rental) was a diesel and it delivered about 28 MPG on the hwy. I don't know what the one with the 3.7 V6 would get, but its not 28MPG.

I really like the Detroit owned company the manufactures the 2.8 I5. Its a nice perky engine and has gobs of torque. Not to mention it would keep up with your V6 Liberty.

As for as the Fugly Dakota is concerned; I don't even think using the same Hem powerplant form the Magnum,Charger,300 could help there sales any

if they designed a inline 4cylinder cummins or whatever that got say 350lb/ft or torque and say 200 hp i would go out and buy the engine and make it work for my 93 just cause it would increase the towing power easily. plus it would last a hell of alot longer than a gas job.

I might. I'd have to take a close look at the specs. Styling is kind of important to me, won't drive anything butt-ugly. But performance is more important. If I can tow my trailer with ease and get 15-20mpg while doing it, I might consider it.

The Liberty diesel is made in Italy. Which I personally don't hink means anything. Spcs are not that good.

Hp= 160, Torque= 295, Economy =23'ish.

My 5.9 makes 245hp/335 ft/lb. But only gets 17mpg on mid grade.

Around here diesel costs the same as premium. The Jeep web site doesn't list the diesel as an option, so I don't know what the additional cost is. So it's tough to say there would be any savings with the diesel, or what the break even point is. But specs like that won't make me trade in my 5.9.
