Subject: Another Exhaust Question!!!
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2003 Quad Cab with a 3.9L V6 stuffed in it. I was wondering how good my truck would sound with a dual exhaust at idle and going through the rpms after my single inlet / exit Flowmaster muffler. I would obviously have to have a y-pipe after the muffler but then the pipes would be exiting just after the rear doors and just in front of the rear tires. Thanks for advance. Any sound clips would be great also.

Terrible; To tell you the truth. I've never heard a 3.9 with a good performance exhaust sound, But I'm not sure what types of systems the ones I've heard have had. I imagine they were running stock exhaust manifolds though. Headers may remedy this problem.

The last one I heard with headers and glasspacks sounded like a Bluebird school bus;) You may have better results with the Flowmasters.

I've never heard a truck-V6 with a decent sounding peformance exhaust. I think you need a V8 to get that deep rumble quality that makes it worth the money.

Yeah. No offense, but I agree about the V6 thing.

The 3.9's I hear are like the 4.3 Chevy. At an idle they don't sound too bad.
But once you hit the gas it sounds kind of goofy rather than having the V8 rumble people associate with how they want their exhaust to sound like. If anything an aftermarket cat and piping could help performance. But I wouldn't put a louder muffler on it.

Now I'm Mopar all the way, but I've heard some 4.3's that sounded pretty good all the way through the R's. To be specific, a friend of mine had an early 90's C1500 with stock manifolds, high flow cats, & Twister mufflers. This truck sounded mean & loud.

I have replaced the stock muffler with a FLowmaster Super 40 and it sounds awesome but I would like to make my exhaust single in and dual out. O well I guess i will just stick with a single exit. Thanks you all.

I think I would stick with the single in single out. I have a flowmaster single in dual out on my 97 v-6. It sounds ok till around 2500 then it sounds... well ricey. I plan to replace the muffler with a Dynomax soon. Hopefully that will quiet it down too a reasonable level.

Supposedly, I've heard from aftermarket manufacturer's dyno tests that the high performance singles are better than duals.

i dont know why people say that there flowmasters sound ricey on a v6. i have a 40 series delta flow single 3"in/dual 2.5" out running straight out the back. it has been confused by many people to be a v8. it does not sound ricey at all. not all of us could afford v8s but at least we bought a dakota. those of us with v6s are atleast trying to do the best that we can with what we got. mine sounds like a v8 up until 4k.

I know my trucks exhaust right now sounds like a V8. I was at wal-mart the other day gettting my oil changed and the three guys standing around my truck didnt beleive that my truck was a V6. I love Flowmaster Super 40 its awesome. In the V6 posts I read that you had your exhaust exiting out infront of the rear tires. How did you route the exhaust piping around the gas tank? Thanks

i had both pipes exiting in front of the passenger side tire. the exhaust shop just made some sharp bends and placed the muffler as far forward as possible. it sounded mean as hell but it was just way too loud inside the cab. plus within a week of driving down a dirt road on the way to work, my front tire had thrown rocks against the tips that i had on there and they were dented and chipped. now i have both pipes running straight out the back with 2.5" dia pipes with two 12" long by 3" dia chrome tips.
