How hard is it to pull out the injectors? I have them still connected to the fuel rail and I'm pulling but I'm affraid to pull too hard and break something. Already busted some of the snapping part of the connectors to the injectors while removing those. I have to replace my plenum gasket so I figured now is as good a time as ever. I got oil towards the back of the intake so decided now better than later.

The factory service manual says to remove the fuel rail hold down bolts and throttle body (of course) and then just "wiggle" the injectors back and forth out of the intake manifold. Leave the injectors on the fuel rail until you get them out on the manifold. The fsm did emphasize not to try and remove and/or kink the rubber hose that connects the fuel rails together on V6's and V8's motors. Good luck!

the FSM, haynes all those say to "wiggle" it out. in all realism...wiggling isnt going to do much alone...you do have to pull on the rails while wiggling em pretty good. if your dakota has some miles...yea they arnt going to want to come out. becaureful cause when they finally do come out they are gonna pop out.

LEAVE em connected to the fuel rail when trying to remove em though.

look at the o rings very close, if they look cracked or anything replace the seals. its cheap and saves a LOT. clean em of course and hell while your at it, go to a junkyard and pick up some ford 19 pound v8 injectors.

forgot to add, might as well test em while you got em out. hang em with wire(still on the rail) from your hood then make sure the fuel pump kicks in and they have pressure. check to see if any of em are leaking.

might as well do it right the first time.

I think Slim was just trying to explain to Adam that with a vehicle that is a few years old, that it is sometimes EXTREMELY hard to just "wiggle and pull" the injectors out. I almost killed myself getting mine out the first time. Chill out buddy, and take the criticism to another thread.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

yep, im sure adam is smart enough to figure it out. but I was explaining that they are going to be in there dang tight and not to be afraid of pullin pretty good(did you see those 2 words?) being afraid of breaking them cause its a pain.

looks like captain obvious cant grasp the obvious. gonna call you captain dumba$$ from now on.

Yea I pulled and wiggled them back and forth til I almost nailed myself in the face. This whole thing took me about 6 hrs and no places around here had the gaskets. I can't afford not to drive it so I had to go with permatex til the gaskets come in. 4 days from now. Thanks for the info guys. Oh and some how I managed to find a whole lot of dirt in the intake and am not sure why my truck didnt just give up on me...gotta love these things.

Ahhh if it's not one problem it's another. Well I got everything put back together and and when I went to install my hose over my thermostat one of my bolts decided it was a good idea to strip it out. Now I have a water leak because my hose isn't completely up against the housing. Dunno what to do other than permatex the crap out of it. Its not that far from being all the way down but just enough to leak.

that permatex is not gonna hold once the engine gets to temp and the cooling system builds pressure. to the tune of about 20 psi! if the bolt's stripped you should be able to get one at a local hardware store. if the manifold is stripped you can install a heli-coil.

Bolts fine it's the manifold. I can still tighten it, it just wont go down all the way. What's a heli coil since that's seems to be the way I'm gonna have to go.

wait a minute! the bolt won't go down all the way. i think one of the 2 holes is not open into the water passage and may have some crap at the bottom of the hole that's not letting the bolt go all the way down.

by the way, a heli coil is a device that you can use to repair a stripped bolt hole. it's an insert that looks like a spring. if the hole is stripped you drill it out according to the directions with the heli coil kit and insert the heli coil which allows you to stay with the original size bolt.

Smae thing happened on my 92 a long time ago. I just used a couple washers to get the right height and tightened the bolt down on them. Worked fine for several years, no leaks, I just had one bolt that was about 1/4" higher than the other one.

Well I got that problem fixed and caused another. Since my gaskets wont come in til Wednesday I tried permatexing the crap out of the old gaskets that are on my intake and that did not work at all. Went for a ride to see if everything was ok and it got hot. So after playing with it a while and saw that I had water in my oil. My permatex didn't work and where the water goes from the block to the intake leaks now. So now I can't drive my truck til wednesday :(
