EXACTLY. but somehow, theres alot of people that think an old LA 318 with a 750cfm carb is gonna be the sh!t. like ive said before, those old engines get good low end grunt, which is why they could tow heavy loads. no top end though. the magnums get the same low end, with better top end.

The LA 318 had small port heads and .390 lift cam. Can't expect top-end on that. It was never marketed as a performance engine. Put in a decent cam, you have another story. The Magnum 318 has .432" lift, by the way, with large port heads....the same as the 360 Magnum........ports that, not coincidentally, are the same size as the 360LA ports. Swap the 360 LA heads/intake onto the 318LA and you have the same power curves as a similarly cammed 318 Magnum. In fact, the last of the LA heads have the same combustion chambers and initial internal changes that were incorporated and further adjusted in the Magnum. The best of the 360 heads is capable of producing within 5HP of the Magnum at 6,000rpm.....all else being equal. Not my opinion. This is printed fact from the performance engine manuals from Chrysler.

to start with, im swappin over to a gen II front (as i already said). and motor wise, this is a truck, not a race car. im not worried about huge high end power. the truck is lifted, 4wd, and built to play in the mud, not the quarter mile. im lookin for nice low end power and torque. i plan on doing some work on it, but im not trying to build a race motor out of if....

Flex-a-Lite Black Magic electric fan.

single units pull up to 2,800 cfm.

dual units that pull up to 5,500 cfm.

The Shelby dual unit is about 2 1/2" at the motors, and about 3 1/4" along the lower part of the frame extension. The extension is just there to angle air in from the lower air dam.
On my LA comments, just wanted to clear up some of the mis-information.

so i wonder was the condensor moved forward and the radiator moved back some? or what
hmmmmm
oh well, ill figure something out
im good at fabrication/making stuff work when its not suposed to
after all, i have a BFH that says it will fit

Basically, the fans fit right into the radiator support framework between the condenser and the radiator....no mods that I can remember....maybe a small spacer for the condenser to slide just a bit forward. Yeah, that had to be it. Radiator was dead stock in location.. The lower (smallish) fan frame extension fit beneath the condenser and extended forward to conduct air from the air dam up to the fan.

ill have to take a peak at it later today and see what i can come up with
maybe ill put a few washers in the condensor bolts to move it as far foreward as possible

well good news, the v-8 is in!
now i have to do some work on the radiator, because there is limited room between the serpentine belt and the coolant line running into the radiator, so im going to try and move it to the driver side a few inches and at the same time move it 1/2 to 3/4 toward the engine for fan clearance
so we will see
i also fouinf out yesterday (should chavce checked earlier, the splines on the output shaft of the transfer case of the 1995 NP231 is a 26 spline, the output of the 1990 NP231 is a 25 spline, so while im dealing with other crap im going to take them to my mechanic and have him switch the shafts and rebuild the t-case and possible regear it for a 4:1 ratio. Also, since both T-cases are NP231s the shafts should be interchangable, correct? i dont see why not
i checked, the 1995 driveshaft is a club cab and my 1990 is a short box RC, also the u-joints are different sizes too, so i can just gank the female spline bu thge U-joint and flip the splines on the drive shafts.
SO
anyone know where i can get a regearing kit for the NP231 T-case, i know Walt Felix did it, but he doesnt post here much anymore
