IP: Logged

Message:
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what type of was is good to use. I was told to try the new turle wax that on the market but someone also told me not to use turtle wax products because they have silicone in them and it doesnt work well with or let new paint breathe. ( i just had my truck painted). Anyways someone also told me to use maguires no.19. There are so many out there that i am just confused as to which one to use.any thought would be great. also any waxings tips/guide you wanna throw in would be great to

I don't recall the number but McQuires or however it is spelled is good and was recommended to my brother by his bodyshop when his car was painted.

For older paint I use their cheap stuff (no number). I think the one you want will say new paint wax.

If i remember right you're not suppose to presure wash or wax a newly painted surface for 2 months because the paint is too soft. After that i think it's mainly personal preference. I use meguiers or rainx.

Best wax I have found is by Eagle One and is called NANOWAX. Great on fine scratches and swirl marks, but the best part is you DO NOT get the white residue that other waxes leave.

It comes in a pump plastic bottle with an applicator. If you aren't using an electric buffer to get the wax off, use Microfiber towels. One came with the bottle I bought and the microfiber towels work great. Picks up everything and doesn't leave dust behind.

try mcguires NXT tech wax. awesome stuff. i would also recommend trying to find some authentic carnuba wax, it is supposedly better for the paint than silicone based products. good luck.

I used Meguires 3-step for 5yrs on my Dak and then I switched to Zaino 2 months ago. I'll never go back to anything else ever again. You can't beat the shine Zaino produces and the protection really last. It's worth every penny!!

Here's some pics of my 5 1/2 yr old Dak with Zaino Z1 and Z2

Does Zaino leave the heavy white residue like most waxes? That is one of the reason I switched to Eagle One. No reside and the shine is very good. If Zaino is close as far as buffing it off, I may have to try it.

Personally, if I need to take a lot oxidation off a vehicle, I start off with KIT wax (yellow bottle with black/white checkered flag), I used this on my old Taco that I used to wash once a week, and wax every two months with Turtle Wax paste..... I then tried the KIT wax, and was absolutely STUNNED at what I took off the truck that the Turtle Wax just left on there... Looked like a completely different color when I was done. Although, the Kit doesn't give a real deep shine, so I use it once every 6 months, and use McGuires for a regular wax.

Wait a couple of months for your paint to cure, first off.
I have used most of what's mentioned above and have found that for excellent results and ease of application Meguires works very well, it's easy to find and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Try the #36 yellow wax for finnish. If there are fine swirls use #9 first(best with a buffer) and wash between the two. Their 'Gold Class' used to work well until they changed the formula a while back, you can still find the older stuff on the shelf sometimes (I've stocked up with 4 bottles of it for future use!!)I used it on my R/T and use now on my GTS.

The real trick is to find something that works and stick with it (and hope they don't change the formula!)

I detail cars for a living. What wax you use depends of course on what exactly you are trying to acomplish. For a nice protective shine, I prefer Meguires Gold Class in paste form. It rubs on very easily, and is easily removed. Durability seems to be good overall, but it's not the longest lasting stuff out there. I can't commment on the durability, but Tech Wax makes a nice shine too, although it's harder to remove, and the dust it leaves drives me nuts.

For a quick detailer I use a product called BeadX. It's a purple liquid, that just sprays on and wipes off. That's what I use frequently on my own cars anyway- it's fast, and I usually don't feel like detailing my own cars.

Turtle Wax Platinum works very well, but is harder to remove (that makes a difference when you're trying to save time). Carnuba wax works good, but I find it to be a pain to remove in high humidity. It has to be applied in a dry garage or on a low humidity day. Otherwise you will spend a long time taking it off. I don't really notice carnuba wax to be shinier or particularly better...

So if you skipped all my rambling above, Meguire's Gold is my pick, followed by Tech Wax (I prefer the paste) or Turtle Wax Platinum. For quick detailing, BeadX (not sure who makes it) is really nice looking and very easy to use.

If you need a good all purpose wax for any older cars you might own, it's possible the paint on them isn't worth the $$$ of Meguire's Gold. If that is the case, the general Meguire's Cleaner Wax (in the red bottle- liquid is best I think) is a great all purpose wax for cars where paint isn't the highest priority. A bottle will last forever, and it's about as cheap as it comes.

Oh, all the waxes I recommended can leave white on the plastic. To clean the white off, use Mothers Back to Black. It's the only stuff that I can get to work as a permenant solution.

Good luck!

assuming that your truck is recent, and the clearcoat is in decent shape, try using a sealant, such as wolfgang high gloss paint sealant, or meguires # 20, or # 21 sealants. they all have excellent UV protection, which is VERY important. next, i use a carnauba wax (for best shine). mothers and meguires gold are excellent products. 4 or 5 times a year, and your paint (and clear) will last many years. i was told to use a combo like this a few years back by the paint "people", when i worked at the DCX minivan plant in windsor, ont.

ok this might sound like a stupid question but is this how you wax a vehicle? If your using a powered waxer then you put the wax on with the was applicator first. Once you have sone the section with that, then you come along and buff it out with the buffing disc. But what i dont know is what you do after that. do you just wipe off excess with a microfiber cloth or do you take it to the car wash, or what.

Also I was thinking about trying that Zaino, its sounds pretty good, its only $20, plus its made in canada, which is good for me because i can easily get it! What do you guys think

I just started to use the Liquid Glass (I think that is the name of it). It was $25, when I got it a year ago, and comes in a metal can. It wipes off real easy. I'm looking forward to see how well it holds up though. It's not the normal type of wax, and to get it off it said something about using #00 steel wool, kinda crazy. Let me know if any of ya'll have heard of this stuff before. Thanks.

you' likely get blasted for asking about using steel wool to remove wax. if you're doing it by hand, microfibre or cotton terry cloth is best. steel wool and clearcoat DO NOT mix.

Hi all!

This is my first post to your site. I've been reading the posts for some time now... lots of good information. I have a '02 QuadCab 4x4 and I just got done doing a wash, wax, and detail to it. I would like to add my 2 cents on wax. I have been using The Wax Shop brand Super Glaze. It doesn't leave the white residue, you can apply wax to the entire vehicle before wiping and it comes off easy. No abrasives, just pure liquid carnuba. It melts all the road grime and road tar off without rubbing too hard. I get mine from Auto Value for about $10 a bottle. Keep up the good work!

Liquid Glass has been around since the mid '80's. I used to use it on a '73 Torino Sport with a 351 CJ under the hood. It gave the best shine of anything I've ever used (especially in multiple coats). I've tried to find it since about '97, but haven't yet. Since then, I've used Maguiars (sp?), mainly due to it's durability. I'm often deployed (US Army), and can't always count on the wife waxing my truck. Come to think of it, I don't think she's ever waxed an automobile in her life!!
