 Subject: 96-Dakota Throttle Cable - NOT AVAILABLE

I have a '96 Dakota, 3.9 Engine - but it has had a v8 throttle body conversion. The throttle cable broke, snapped at the throttle body. I went to Dodge to get a new one, only to find they are discontinued, and not available - anywhere in the country.
Next I decided to drop the car off at Dodge to get the service department to brainstorm an dea, and get my 96 Dakota back on the road. After about 5 days, they caleld and said, "Yep your right, we can't get that part!" Funny, that's what I said when I dropped it off, yet it took them 5 days to figure that out. So I asked the guy what back-up plan Dodge has for this, he said he was going to check with Chrysler Tech to get an answer.
In the meantime, I am sitting and waiting, with no truck.
Anyone who has ever ran into this, and found a solution, please pass it on.

wouldnt one of the other year model cable fit on it? I owuldnt think they changed that much? this is really sad on dodge part. discontinuing (is that a word lol) parts for trucks barely 10 years old. napa or other parts stores carry them? I have heard other people finding out parts for their trucks have be discontinued.

This cable is not available through Dodge. They quit making it, and it is not stocked anywhere in the country. No Aftermarket parts carry this cable, not Pep-Boys, Auto-Zone, Orielly's, and NAPA. According to dodge parts, the 96 throttle cable does not cross to another number. Hell - even Chrysler Tech was called by the dealer and guess what, they did not have an answer. Chrysler Sucks!
Salvage Yards do not stock throttle cables, they do however stock throttle bodies. I accessed the website www.car-part.com, and made about 40 phone calls. I am in TX, and was finally able to locate a throttle cable for my 96, V6 Dakota in Wisonsin. I found a second one in south Texas. Needless to say I ordered them both. You can't call a salvage yard and ask for a throttle cable, they will laugh at you, Instead, I first had to ask for the throttle body, and then ask about the cable. Most of them still laughed, but a select few understood my desperation and sent a guy out to inventory the cars. What I found most was, a lot of the yards didn't stock any Dakotas older then 98.
So - long story short, once I get this fixed I will probably sell the dakota. It's a shame since I just buoght it three weeks ago. And I will never, ever, EVER buy or have anything good to say about a chrysler product. You got a viper, who cares, piece of junk as far as I am concerned. A $60K pile of crap, made by a piece of crap company. Lee Iacocca, you piece of SH**!
