I was getting only 9 or 10 mpg in my 97 4x4 Dakota with a 318 for the past two years. I assumed that the exhaust was plugged up or something. Then gas hit $3.00+ per gallon. I started to drive around like an old lady and my mileage instantly shot up to 14 mpg. I then removed about 700 lbs of tools out of the bed and I gained another 1 mpg. I use my Dakota for city only type driving. I guess I was driving like an idiot for the past two years, now I never floor it and accelerate very slowly up to the speed limet.

that's a huge gain for just changing your driving habits. good for you. a lot of people just don't get it though. they are looking to spend whatever it takes to increase mileage when you can do so much that's free.

I decided to drive like I'm old and have a handicapped tag hanging from my rear view mirror. Slow and steady as they go and the 4.7 is getting between 19.2 and 20mpg.

***Not making fun of handicapped, but every time I see an handicapped tag there are normally older people in the car driving at or below the speed limit and their movements are very methodical. Guess what? It works!***

Hey, I went from 17MPG to 32MPG.

OK, I took up driving my 1987 Jetta again. Now that the summer heat is over I can bear to drive it since it doesn't have A/C.

For some reason that right pedal just doesn't feel the same. Oh well, that's the trade-off...

But on a serious note. Our driving habbits have a direct effect upon how much gas our trucks drink. I echo daddio's comment. I have seen it firsthand.
