Subject: wheel bearings??
IP: Logged

Message:
i replaced both wheel bearings about 3 months ago on my dakota was fine for 2-2 1/2 months, then when i replaced the balljoints, tie rods, and rotors, the drivers side one was all loose and crunchy again, so i replaced it again, and now the same loose crunchy noise his occuring, after i did the ball joints i have 4 new 31x 11.50 mudd terrains put on, and the torsianbars cranks alil bit, and a alignment, but i have no idea why it would be going bad again??

yes the 3 bolts that hold on the bearing/hub assembly, as for the wheels i do not torque to prope, i use a very good impact gun for when the lug stops spinning i go 3 seconds, other than that everything is straight and true

When do you hear the noise, braking, turning or driving straight? If you're sure the crunch is coming from the bearing and you used the same brand bearing both times I'd try a different supplier.

it makes drunching noises turning left, and going straight sometimes, its not the ball jkoiints of tierod ends i just replaced them, also the tire looked to be out of alignment, the top of the tire tilts in towards the truck, just had a alignement too

doesn't sound like a wheel bearing. find a good front suspension tech and get it checked before it dumps on you.

well get this,

i brought my truck to the front end shop to ask them what they did, he had the truck for no more than a hour and 1/2 and he called and said i can pick it up, when i get there i asked what was wrong, he told me that the upper balljoint was bad. along with the bearing hub assembly, so i asked if i can have the old hub assembly since its fairly new so i can get a refund at advanced auto with it, he insisted that he "threw away" the old one, now almost 200$ later i decide to check his work on my truck, well it seems that the upper balljoint was defective, but the bearings, he did nothing to, i know this for a fact, because i mark the parts i put on my truck with a grinder, i usually grind a little x on parts of the casting so i can know when i get ripped off. so now i called up the front end guy and was asking about the work he did, still his story did not change, so i questioned him, about the condition of the old bearings, he insisted that they were totally shot and the root of my problems, so then i told him about my marks on the bearings, he was speachless, he told me to come into the shop and we'll talk about it, well as it turns out, the bolts holding the bearing assembly in loosednd up, the bottom two, so thats why it would make noise turning left as the tire/hub moved around turns, i ended up with a full money refund and a new upper balljoint, the balljoint cost was only about 20$ and was ease to install since i replaced all the rivets already, he said he will refund my money because he is just opening and doesnt want any negative "vibes" i told him if he wants to make money in this world he has to do it like everyone else, fair and honestly, then i left, i never thought marking the suspension stuff would come in handy in this case it did, and man was i happy when i got that cash back, now i can get the new intake and carb for my 68 dart , thanks again everyone

I'd still report the SOB to the authorities and the BBB. Some folks won't be as savvy as you were to mark the parts you installed. If he tried it once, he'll try it again.

WOW.

It is sometimes hard to believe that some shops would be 100% dishonest like that!

It's amazing how one shop can differ from another shop. EVEN if it's the SAME company.
It's usually who ever is managing the place that controls what actually goes on there.

Hopefully that guy learned his lesson EARLY!

i think he did learn his lesson if he didnt and was a real sheister, he wouldve said that those marks are on the aftermarket bearings, he was truthfully upset, i think mainly because it was a small shop and he was the only one i saw working there, it might of been a family run business but i think there going to be a straight working business now, and to everyone, mark any stuff that you put on that you know to fact is good, and always ask for the old parts.
