I have a noise that sounds like it could be catalytic converter. I'm not sure what it is. When I first looked at the truck, I was thinking of buying it, and the dealer had just got it in as a trade in. I went by the dealership to look at it and drive it. They had done nothing to it yet since they had just gotten it, so we cranked it up, and heard a rattling noise from around the middle of the truck. They were going to replace the cc, so we all thought that's what the noise was. Ended up buying the truck and waiting for them to replace cc and detail it. When I got it, I didn't hear the noise anymore. Well, about 3 weeks, and around 2k miles later, I started hearing it faintly right after I crank it up cold, and sometimes when I'm going up hills around 40-50mph.

Any idea on what it could be? Is it harmful, or just a rattle of something loose...Thanks for any help:)

The converters have a heat shield that can break partially loose and rattle - might be as simple as that.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Kowalski, you took the words out of my moth (or keyboard). Definately check the heatshield first. It's possible somethings broken inside the cat, but check heatshield before you write it off as a cat failure.

Your options with the heat shield are 1 of 2.

1) You can get some straight hose clamps- you can buy them at like a Napa probably. Stainless steel, they should proably last the rest of the life of the truck.

2) You can break off the heatshield and use it as a saucer sled in the winter. Sometimes this is not desireable to do though. You have to make your own decision there.

I've seen it happen a million times on cars, especially in the Rust Belt if you are living there.
