I have a 97' Dakota, The headlights are starting to turn yellow. Anyway to fix this(like a cleaner or polish)? I see quite a few 97'&8's doing this around here. I'd sure hate to repalce both lights. Thanks.

One day when I was picking up body parts to repair a wrecked vehicle, I got talking to a guy in there who worked at a body shop.
He mentioned something about wet sanding them headlight lenses.

I tried it on a small area of a headlight on our late 1998 Cirrus, but didn't notice much.

We got rid of the car before I put more effort into it.

I used some Mothers polish and a rag. Took a little time but it works.

The problem is that the plastic turns yellow with time and UV exposure. It turns yellow a layer at a time. To get rid of it, you have to remove the yellowed layers and get down to clear layers. That's where wet sanding and polishing compounds come in.

i had seen something on tv on hot rod tv i think it was, they took mothers metal polish to the lens and worked it around for a while and then topped it off with mothers plastic polish. Not sure how long you have to do this to get a clear lens again but might be worth a try.

agree with graphitedak, re: wet sanding. heard about using 2000 grit. also, i've used autosol metal polish on head/tail lights with good results, as long as they're not too bad to begin with. good luck.
