Subject: crossmember prob

i am swapintg my tranny on my dakota and i am almost done taking it out but the top 2 crossmember bolts on each side are being blocked by the cab hanging over it. any ideas?

If they were installed from the other direction, could you get them out? If so, break out the Sawzall.

jackup on the cab a little on that side.. it will move up and down some without undoing the body mount bolts.

cuttin torch handle by a pro, if you have never used one or little use, do not try this at home boys and girls, but if a pro, its simple.

i dont recommend cutting off the pinch weld that holds the cab together. Besides effectly structural integrity, it's going to promote corrosion and rust.


just put a jack under a body mount and lift up, the body will lift a couple inches and provide clearance. This is exactly what i did when i removed my crossmember.

does the crossmember go back in easily, b/c when it came out it seemed wedged between the frame rails?

it goes in pretty easily... just keep it above the place it goes in and it actually slides down onto the rails.
