Subject: Tires... anyone used these?

Message:
I'm thinkin of putting on 265/75/16 Toyo Open Country M/T's on my 2003 Quad Cab 4x4...

Has anyone had these tires?
I live in Canada and Have to deal with Ice and snow as well. Anyone with any experience with Mud Terrains on snow and ice?

Any advice would be awesome!
thanx

Well I don't have the m/t's but I am running the toyo open country a/t's. Bit smaller, LT235/75/15's and so far they work great in the wisconsin winters. I only have a 2wd and it's a 5spd so I have to run with some sandbags in the bed of the truck but haven't gotten stuck yet. I would think the m/t's would have similar traction with the bigger "footprint" that it will have.

I would guess if its 4x4 doesnt matter with the type of tire. if only using it in snow condition. I know my stock tires on my 03 dak look like reg street tires. so I would guess they would work as good as AT tires. I have motorcraft AT on my truck 245/70/16

and does good and surpised that it doenst have a louder humm when on paved roads.

as far as ice goes, any 4x4 mag you read says they SUCK SUCK SUCK on ice, something about not as much surface contact due to the massive lugs, HOWEVER, im not sure about canada but in WI its illegal to do so but the cheapo Widetrack Baja MTs i have on my old dakota came with holes to screw in wheel studs, never driven a car with them but they sure hell do help on my snowmobile!
so, they always recoment an AT for winter driving

as much fun as it is to play in the deep stuff with my MTs
oh, and anyone who says tires dont make a big diff for traction (dont know of many around these forums) but whoever says that is a DAMN FOOL!
My 01 Ram got stuck in like 6" of hard packed snow, the tires would not go any farther because it was like ice nothing to grab

the dakota however i have taken through 12" of hard pack and the MTs chew the hell out of it
mud is a different story, if yo ulose foreward momentum, you jsut dig a hole and get stuck even worse
but anyway, i liek my MTs, F*CK the mags and get them anyway

If you like them and they are only bad for Ice and not snow then have them sniped. I had an older pair of tires which were worthless. There was enough tread for a couple years so I had them sniped and they were like a new tire on the ice/street packed snow.
