It's still FWD though, but it does have an aluminum v-8 (5.3l.) Half way there, it still needs to be driven from the rear wheels.

saw one on the road today. absolutely nothing special looking about it. very generic looking. rear end looks like it was copied right from the new Ford 500 drawing board. you know, something like what your grandfolks wouldn't mind driving around in...

I like the Ford 500. Too bad it's so underpowered.

The Impala is just more ugly GM crap.

From their specs...
"5.3L Small Block V8 Engine

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The small block V8 in SS models features:

Displacement on Demand (DOD) technology for an estimated MPG 28 highway.1
The most standard horsepower and torque in its class.2
Aluminum Construction – all major castings in the V8 engine, including the deep–skirt engine block, are made of weight–saving aluminum. Casting from aluminum contributes to a stiff engine structure that helps ensure smooth operation.
Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) – ETC replaces the mechanical link between the accelerator pedal and engine with drive–by–wire electronic control. This allows for remarkably smooth and precise acceleration.
Polymer–Coated Pistons – pistons are coated with a polymer material that reduces engine wear and contributes to quieter operation.
Cylinder–Head Technology – the small block V8 cylinder heads were originally developed for the Corvette Z06. Their pent–roof combustion chambers and flat–top pistons deliver high horsepower.
Composite Intake Manifold – the composite intake manifold design allows the small block V8 to deliver high levels of torque at low– and mid–range engine speeds, while still delivering plenty of airflow for peak engine horsepower. "

- Looks like they have made some changes to their newer V8 with similarities to another popular V8 being used in trucks and car. I WONDER which engine THAT could be???

I saw one today. Couldn't see a rear axle, so I assumed it was FWD.
What a bunch of sh*t. At least DC pulled their heads out of their a$$ long enough to bring back some RWD vehicles. And Ford never STOPPED making RWD.
RWD is just better, period.

That's the same engine that is in some of the GM trucks. It is the LS-2 V8 which is very close to the LS-1. Steel cylinders, coated pistons, 6 bolt mains 150 pounds lighter than the iron block. It's a very impressive engine with a lot of potential. I haven't seen the new Impala personally, but I can't see how that engine would be put in a front drive chassis. The current GTO is a rear drive car and that is based off of an Austrailian fleet car. The way I understood it was the current GTO was going to be replaced with an all new rear drive platform that will also be the bassis for other new GM cars. All part of their new platform sharing.

The real reason DC went rear drive with their new performance sedans is becasue they are based off of the previous Mercedes C-class platform. Mecedes does not have front drive cars so most of their expertise is obviously with rear drive platforms. Since they own Dodge (DC) it was more cost effective to develope a new "hot rod" using an existing out dated Mercedes platform (just like the Crossfire)and add traction control or all wheel drive. Tha's all that is. No great foresight from DC. They're just using available resources which from a corporate stand point is smart. I know a couple of people with one of those cars (300 & Magnum) both with only the V6 and even with the traction control they say the cars are a handful to drive even in the rain. Just like an unloaded 2 wheel drive truck. Great platform for performance, but maybe not so good everyday 4 season driving (in northern climates anyway).

I don't think that sounds like a SLOW car.

But still. FWD sucks. I don't care how many people will try to argue that with me.

RWD rules. That's why the German's use RWD or AWD and not FWD. Cuz FWD sucks.
