Well, I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I am in search of information on replacing a front wheel bearing on my dad's 2001 4wd GMC Jimmy. I've had little luck finding a GMC site as good as DD is a good Dak site. Soooooo, I thought I would see if anyone in DD land knows of a good GMC/S-10/ Jimmy site.

Heck,, maybe someone has the rundown on how to replace the wheel bearing here,,,,, probably just wishful thinking.

On BTW, just from looking around the Jimmy I think it's a real POS.

Could try www.chevytruckworld.com

They have a blazer forum (same as the jimmy), don't know how helpful they would be, but you could try.

You could try s10forums.com

They arent that bad to change really, i have done a few on s10's i have owned in the past. You need to remove the axle nut off the half shaft, remove the caliper, pads and rotor, disconnect the abs sensor wire and remove the tie down clip from the upper control arm, remove the inner rod end from the steering knuckle, seperate the upper and lower ball joints from the steering knuckle, then you can remove the steering knuckle from the ball joints and helf shaft. once you have the knuckle out there are three bolts that hold in the bearing. Take those out, remove the bearing and replace with the new unit. Put it back on in the order yuo took it of. I dont have the torque values off hand though. Also check the lower ball joints, s10's have a tendancy to chew them up.

Its really the same process as on a newer dakota 4wd, just the torque values differ.

btw you will need an impatc gun and a deep well socket to remove the axle nut. I think the socket is 35mm or 36mm i dont remember. I got mine at the auto parts store and it wasnt cheap :(

Thanks for the input. I lucked out and didn't have to remove the spindle to get the hub off, just had to use a wrench to remove the 3 hub bolts which was a total PITA, but better than removing the spindle. Was a peice of cake though, 2 1/2 hours including running down to the parts store for the new hub.

I'll second the s10forums.com plug. I used to frequent that forum with my last vehicle; 93 Jimmy.

Seemed to have a good number of very knowledgeable people...
