I had previously addressed this topic in this thread: http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/gen/1879.html - Radar Detectors.

I would suggest that you start there with your inquiry...

BTW, I bought a BEL 950 and yes... it indeed works and is effective! It is really good at "sniffing" out radar signals and giving good warning.

I have the Escort Passport 8500. It works very well. Kinda pricey at $400. I also got the direct wiring harness (another 30 bucks. I mounted it to the right of the rear view mirror just below the tint line. You can barely see it from the outside. I hard wired it so that no "tell tale" wiring shows. It also comes on with the ignition switch.

Very happy with it and highly recommend it!! Very few false alarms. Many user programable features.

Valentine one + remote display. User programmable (but you won't be able to make it better). Factory upgradeable. Laser detection, too. 360 degree position indicator.

This is my own personal opinion and I don't know the laws or regulations of everyone's state, but here in Pennsylvania, the only police that can even use radar are state police. Everywhere but the highway, they only use VASCAR (for you who don't know that's the white lines across the street where the cop times how long it takes to get from one to the next) so for me, anyway, it would be pointless to get one.
