Subject: Clicking when starting

Message:
Its only happened three times now, but its worrying me a little. Sometimes when i start my truck up it clicks ones or twice then fires right up. It happens when my truck has sat for a few minutes after being driven until reaching operating temp. When i re start it the temp guage is usually almost or at half way. Of course it does cool right back down. What do you think it is? Is the starter or something just overheating? Thanks

clicking w/o starting usually means the battery is going dead. Is that what is happening? I could be wrong

I don't think the battery is going dead. This only happens after re starting the engine when the temp guage is about half way and the engine bay is heat soaked.

i'd double check all connections then load test the battery. if you don't find anything there it could be the starter getting heat soaked.

maybe the cellenoid? Unsure where it is as I have not had a problem yet. Either on firewall or on stater itself.

Remove your battery cables and clean them > Also check other end of the ground cable and the plus cable at the starter > Good place to start looking

A warm starter will draw more current; could be connections or it just might be the battery.
