sprucebunny, where in the hell you parken that
Dakota anyway? My 02 has been parked all summer in
my Father-In-Laws barn, covered and moth balls
around each tire. No mice problems ...... so far.
Been doing that every summer for years and same
in the winter with my 79 AMC and travel trailor.

Sounds like you need some help. I'm not trying to
be smart either. Mice can and will distroy wiring
and other things if not taken care of. If you're
storing your Dakota, I'd suggest disconnecting the
battery.

It was only parked for 6 days this time. Took them 3 days to try

that is messed up! maybe try one of those sonic pest control devices. Lord knows you do not want them dying in there. worst comes to worst tent the damn thing and set off a bug bomb, but try to avoid that. Or run the damn heater, maybe that will sweat them out. Good luck and you have my sympathies.

i sympathize with you, but when you think about it this is a funny problem. this suggestion is mostly meant as a joke, but what if you removed the vent covers and somehow hooked an air compressor up to the cab's air intake. you could blast them out of there with air pressure much like a potato or marshmellow gun.

in all seriousness, i had a hunch that the guys at car talk would have visited this issue before. they say that if you want to avoid taking apart the dash, the next best thing to do is let the mice die and decompose. they say that eventually their entire bodies will decompose and you can get rid of the smell by dumping gargantuan amounts of lysol into the cab's air intake and running the car's heater on blast for hours at a time with the windows open.

what an answer! i can't imagine the smell this would produce, much less having to "deal" with it in the meantime.

see this link on car talk for more on what they said:

My country garage trick
5 gallon bucket > Handle fixed to stay upright > Coffee can lid with small hole dead center > Tie string dead center to handle with string going through the lid and a nail tied to that > Lid needs to be an inch or so below level with top of bucket > Put peanutbutter on the lid but keep it balanced > 1 piece of 1x2 as a ramp going from floor to top of bucket > Set it right in the front of your truck/car > Put water in the bucket > About 4 inches deep > They will head for that peanutbutter before they try the truck > Opertunest buggers lol > They jump fot the lid and it tilts > WALLA > They drown >

here is one other thing i found out there from a guy who used this to figure out if he had mice in his ricer ... lol

"Try this: Put some peanut butter on the end of a drinking straw or narrow wooden stick and lower the bait through a vent. Mice can't resist peanut butter, and you'll know in one night's baiting if there is a mouse in there."

come to think of it though, if you pulled the vent covers off of a few vents and set a mouse trap in the opening--the dak's vents are probably big enough--or even try the cab air intake on the passenger side--and left it for a night or two, (maybe with a string or something to make sure you could pull the trap out again in case it fell through), you might end up coaxing the little bastards to your trap and catch one or two of them.

i don't know ... this is just an intriguing problem you have.

I ran the heater full blast for 1/2 hour twice and there were still
"noises" coming from the heater/AC boxes on the pass. side
when I turned it off. Vacumed......AGAIN !
I ran it for 1/2 hour again and haven't heard any
noises.......Don't know if they've expired or moved ?:)

There were pieces of nest flying out the vent and I almost
expected a mouse to fly out just to prove reality and cartoons
really aren't that far apart !!!!!

Wiped the vent passages out with a soapy spray..... think I'll
throw some moth balls in there....I don't think they like 'clean'
smells.

Thanks for the replies ;D Some days ya just got to laugh so you
don't cry ! ! !

I'm open to more ideas ...... ?????

One word,,, Shop Vac...

Remove your dash facia so the vents are removed and suck the little b@stards out of your ducts with a big 'ol shop vac. You could also remove the dash and put some mouse traps in the ducts as previously mentioned, but I think the shop vac would be far more satisfying as they get extricated down the vac's hose. Also, stuff your neighbor's cat into the Shop Vac so they are eaten soon after being sucking into the vac...

I had a wasp nest in my boat and used this trick to get all of them one night.

OBIO3, I like that trap...

DSW,
I believe Shop Vac is two words.
However, once you get rid of the rodents, you might try putting
some dryer sheets in the vents and anyplace you find that may
allow access to them. These dryer sheets are supposed to keep
critters out of things.
I have heard this may workl, and if you get the right kind of
dryer sheet, it may not smell too badly, either.

Hey, How about this. Try not to jack off for about 5 days. Then when your full of Cum, stick your dick in the duct, hump the sh*t outta it, and before you cum, yell very loudly: You ass ramming mice that spice up my world in another century when I beame a mouse once myself! Then shoot ur cum all over em' and they will come out screaming. Once the run out, take your penis and start whacking the sh*t outta them with it until they all die. Then go eat a bananna. Good Luck!

Try dryer softener sheets - we do well with them to keep mice out of our camper; seems to work as well as mothballs without the nasty smell. Clean the nest out first, then put some in the ducts. Good luck !

Well let's try ShopVac or Shop-Vac,,, That better!

I'd think the dryer sheets would eventually blow down the ducts and get stuck in the vents, well that's unless you use Carlos's method and stick them down...
