Hey, I'm new to these fourms...but I just bought a 2001 Dakota Sport. Wanted to see how I did on the purchase.

I ended up with a 2001 Dakota Sport, with the 4cyl 2.5L 5speed. I know it's only a 4 cyl, but it's my first truck, and coming from a saturn ( heh ) it's a big jump. I picked it up brand new from the dealer for 11,990 plus I got 8000 for my saturn. Only had 15 miles on it when I got it.

I also wanted to know if there are a lot of mods for the 4cyl 2.5L engine.

Thanks
qazew

Sounds like an excellent price and a great deal to me. That is quite an upgrade from a Saturn!

qazew, welcome
i too have a 2.5l, its a 98 club cab slt. me being 16 at the time is all i could afford, but as for your question there arent alot of mods, but there are a good amount. check out www.speedtweaks.net, and youll see a link on there for krc performance, its out of cocoa, fl.i live in orlando so its a short drive, but im pretty sure they do mail order also. the guys name is marty, he has alot to offer, such as ported throttle bodies, custom cams, 1.7 roller rockers, custom exhaust, intake, and ignitions. as of now i have a jet stage II chip, 180 t-stat, flowmaster 50 series delta flow, with custom dual rear exit, homemade intake w/ k&n filter. you could also check out truckperformance.com for airaid intake and the jet chip. email me if you have any more questions, i can help you out to an extent. and o yeh youll get alot of crap about the 4banger(i think we all do) but when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. i am also trying to get a custom turbo setup, but am still researching. you could also check out these guys
http://www.rimmersuperchargers.com/jeep.html its for the jeep but people on this board have said its the same engine as the dakota.
good luck

Hey guys - 3.9L gets a lot of crap too - it's all relative. Only thing that matters is if YOU like it... as for me, I love my truck! Good luck with your mods

I'm convinced, stuff in California must be more expensive than anywhere else in the US. a CC dakota has a base invoice price of over 16k here (that is NO OPTIONS whatsoever) accordign to KBB.com

Hey, don't complain! Here in Canada, a 2 year old Dak with 20 k was listed last week for $20,000, a totally loaded Dak, 1998 with 30k was $27,000! I paid $18,200 (after haggling) for my 97 two years ago. Base price for a 2WD V6 is $22,900 (with downpayment)

If you want to look at new prices, check with the dealers, right now there are huge discounts on new Dakotas, like $5000. I saw a new truck like the 2.5 described at the dealer, asked how much and they said $12600. This is no negotiation, 'how much for that one' kind of question. BTW this is Atlanta.

You can call Crutchfield at 1-888-955-6000 (8AM to midnight Eastern) and their tech reps can give you the speaker fitment specs. I've found them to be very courteous and helpful even if you don't buy anything. Their catalog has a bunch of fitment charts in it. They can also sometimes give you tips on removing interior panels. They have a site online, www.crutchfield.com but their prices are a little high and they don't carry any high end stuff ( ie. MB Quart). Hope the info helps. Jim

Well heres the deal I got on my truck...Just bought it last May with only 8,400 Miles on it!!
-1999 Dakota Sport C/C, 2 wheel drive.
-5.2 liter V-8, Automatic trans, Anti-Slip rear
differential with 3.55 gears.
-Towing Package with large Front/Rear Brakes
-Heavy Duty Battery
-Solar Yellow.
-Exterior Appearance Package with body color
bumper surrounds and black fender flares
(Black flares were custom ordered)
-15x8 Premium Wheels (Alloy) with GoodYear
Eagle tires
-Handling Package (Front + Rear Sway Bars)
-Interior Power Convenience Group with overhead
console and computer, and Auto Dimming rearview
mirror
-Front Bucket Seats with Center Console
And the list goes on and on, Well I found out that the original owner of the truck had custom ordered it straight from DC the way he wanted it but passed away after putting only 8,400 miles on the truck. His Son traded it in on a Honda and I snatched up the truck as soon as I could.
All I can say is that I LOVE THIS TRUCK!! Its in SHOWROOM condition as I like to keep it that way.
I mean its CLEAN! Now,,,what did I pay?????
Well,,,,,A mere $14,000 and I drove this baby home..
Thanks for letting me brag a little,,,now I'll go sit quietly in the corner.
BTW this site is AWESOME! I visit every night if I can.
