Okay, just got a flyer in the mail today claiming some haircut company has a contest going on where you can win a 2006 Dodge Dakota R/T. Someone got a link to a site that has some real information on this truck? I've tried a few search engines, but I haven't turned up much.

Okay, I have put my incredible legal mind to work for you all and read the fine print, aka the contest rules. The country is split up into 4 regions, and one R/T will potentially be given away to a winner in each region. I say "potentially" because the way the website works is that their computers have generated 581 random times between now and the close of the contest. 4 of those times are designated as the winning times for the R/T--thus the first user who logs in during one of these times and is from the corresponding region wins the truck. The other 577 times are for the lesser prizes (t-shirts, mugs, etc).
The R/T's features, including the color of the exterior and interior, are to be determined by the "sponsor" (Dodge), as well as any other features or upgrades. If the winner wants to make any other upgrades they pay out of pocket.
So, here's my question--it says one of these babies is worth $40,000. Is that really what the new R/T's are going for?

no kidding. says it in the rules, $40k. what really sucks is that whoever wins it is going to end up having to pay income tax on that $40k since that's how dodge declares the truck's value, and they risk being bumped up into the next tax bracket and thus higher tax rate.
i'd very conservatively estimate the R/T at 35k. I was playing around with dodge's website yesterday, priced out a dakota laramie loaded with every possible option and couldn't get the thing above 32 or 33 grand.

I could really see it being somewhere around 40k. If they give it the "every possible option" Laramie package and somehow fit a Hemi into that bad boy, I could see it. The hood scoop alone will probably cost a good $1000 or so, add to that a HEMI and its tranny for $1855, those rally wheels are a good $800-1000, and you know they're going to bump up the baseline from $25k to at least $26k for the next model year. That's $38k right there.
Hey, if it's anything like the 1500, pricing a SRT/10 version bumps the price almost to $46k base compared to the $31k Laramie base. That's a pretty big chunk.

ya thanks, mpbronso. WHat i meant was what makes this new RT a RT??? merely badges and rims or does it actually have some performance upgrades??? I have yet to here of the new RT.
