I have a 97 v6 3.9 auto tranny (42re). The problem I'm having is when I take off from a stop, there's no take off power. I can put the pedal to the floor and the rpms slowly rise, taking about 15 seconds to go from 0-50. It doesn't sputter or anything like that. At higher speeds it runs fine, I can hit the pedal at 45 and the rpms jump and the truck has power. I believe its a tranny problem because along with this, the trans tends to overheat in heavy stop and go traffic. Fluid and filter were done a week ago hoping it would help, but it didn't. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

try a new tranny cooler. Or see if the lines to the cooler are plugged. Mine did the slow take off thing for a while and it was the cooler.

also, did you have the tranny flushed or just drained? i've heard that merely draining the fluid and refilling gets less than 1/3 of the fluid out of there and can leave a lot of the crap stuck up in there. i've had a manual for 5 years now so i haven't had to mess with that stuff for a while.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look into the cooler although I believe the overheating is being caused by something else.

The trans was flushed about 6 months ago and you are correct simply draining and filling only changes about four quarts while the trans holds much more than that.

Thanks again guys
