Subject: CD/Cassette Pre-Out?
IP: Logged

Message:
Can anyone tell me if the stock CD/Cassette deck in the 2000 Dakota's has a pre-out available on it?

Looking to see how things sound before I go out and splurge on a real deck and speakers.

Though mine is a 99... I don't think they have changed much...

If it is like mine, then NO, the factory deck doesn't have a "pre-out".

The 99 and 2000 have the same stereo. The stereo changed in 2001 but I don't know if these have pre-outs

I can't speak for the 2000's, but I have the CD/cassette in my 2001, and there's no pre-outs, so I doubt that you'll find them in previous years. There IS, however, a seperate amplifier in the passenger-side kick panel that I didn't know about before I installed my amp. That amp didn't have speaker-level inputs, so I used a line output converter, and now that I know about the factory amp, it turns out that I didn't need the converter after all (and it probably adds noise to the signal). I could've run the lines that normally feed into the factory amp directly into my EQ, then through the crossover and into my amp.

The stock stereos don't come with pre outs because if you try to hook them up to an amp they get really hot and stop working at least thats what I have experienced in the past when I wanted the stock look but also have a system. The best thing is what I have done is get one of the Kenwood mask decks where the face turns aroung and then it looks like there is no radio in the car as the area around the deck is black. I also like that it mounts flat and doesn't stick out like detachable faces and you don't have to carry the face around a forget it or lose it.

Thanks for the tips. I was looking to put a new Kenwood MP3 player in there, so that sounds reassuring.
