 Subject: 3.9 to 5.2 engine swap questions

Im going to do an engine swap on my 1997 dodge dakota, 4x4, 5spd transmission, and a 3.9L engine. I want to do a engine swap to a 5.2L. I have been told the 5.2 engine will fit my 3.9 tranny. Will my 3.9 bellhousing fit on the 5.2 or do i need the 5.2 bellhousing.Will the 5.2 engine will fit into my 3.9 engine mounts. And will the 5.2 pcm fit the connections in the cab.And do i need the wiring harness or can i just tap into the fuel injectors and how would i go about doing that. Any other helpfull tips and tricks would be appreciated.

why do you even want a 5.2 now. the gas is so high its not worth it. i have a 5.2L, and i like it. so dont get me wrong i do. but if i had the 3.9L, its way easier to just drop a cam, intake, and decent exhaust into it so get more power. its cheaper, the mileage is better, and its way less work. thats my suggestion to you.

brad, unfortunately I can't answer your questions, but I 'd say go for the 5.2. I doubt the mileage will be that different from the 3.9. I have a 97 3.9 and only get 16-17 on average.

brad...do it, i have the 3.9 and my friends with the 5.2 get better miles per gallon than i do. the power you gain will be nice...can't wait to swap my 3.9 for a 5.2...

if someone with a 5.2 is getting better mileage than someone with a 3.9 in the same truck, then something is wrong. i knew someone with a 3.9 dakota just like mine(cc, 4x4 auto) and he got better milage than i do. i would just drop mods into it. but thats me.

Good luck on the swap.
Please post your experiences as you go. It should be an interesting mod.
Don't you also need a new computer for the extra 2 cylinders?
Are motor mounts an issue?
