On the way back from the shore the other day, my AC took a crap on me. When I turn the fan dial there is no response from the first three settings, the max ac light doesn't even light up. The only response I get is when I turn the fan speed all the way up it kicks on. So essentially it works, but I have no control over the fan speed. I was wondering if anyone had any idea about what the problem could be. I know there are a lot of smart people on this sight, and was hoping the might help me diagnose the problem. I was hoping it might be something simple to fix.

With all the problems I have been having I wish I could trade in my 02 slt, but I still owe $13,000 on it.

could be the resitor. It's on the firewall inside the engine compartment. It controls the blower motor speed.

It is the resistor block. Often these are about $40-$100 or so, varies by vehicle.

I just replaced my resistor block for $8.00. Thats what controls the fan speed. Passenger side fire wall. Unplug it, unscrew it, replace it!!!

I never liked how they did that. Instead of a multiple tapped motor winding, the use inline COIL type resistor blocks. These COILS in line with the motor are loads when the fan is runnig and make HEAT in the air flow. They HAVE to be in the air flow, or they burn up!

Great engineeering. Nice to know they haven't changed THAT still... :(
