Well I traded in my silver '02 4.7L CC 4x4 after years of fun. It was hard dropping it off but I don't mind the new ride, SRT 4. The gas in the Dak was getting to be too much and with a baby on the way, I needed something with four doors. I looked at a new Dakota but my old one felt so much better and I knew I wouldn't be satisfied with it. I still have the MBRP SS Split Duals if anyone is interested, pipes are 2 years old and the muffler itself is less than a year old. The Stage 2 kit for the SRT should be in soon. As peppy as the Dak felt with H.O. Cams and all the goodies, this car is hella fast and turns way more heads than the Dak could ever hope to. I'm putting bus lengths on cars that used to walk me in the Dak. Lots 'o fun. Take care fellow Dak owners and if DCX comes out with a better Dak than the current model, I will likely come back to the fold.

yeah just wait till you try to get the baby in and out the neon. you will wish you had gotten a QC dak. my wifes malibu is a lil larger than the neon. and getting our 2 year old in and out the car is lets say a backbreaker. I love how he said gas prices was getting to him with a new one on the way. but already ordered the neon a preformance mod lol.

you should of waited a few years for the SRT dakota.

Yeh!, baby on the way and wants to save a few hundred dollars in gas by spending a few thousand on a new pocket rocket .
Well atleast the diaper bag, stroller, toy bag, day-crib, exersaucer, cooler for the formula, stuffed teddy bear, spare pillow, and blanket will fit neatly in the trunk...........not.
Oops...looks like a trade for a 2001-2004 QC was a better idea.
"Dammit, why didn't I think of that? Oh yeh, I did think of that"

I agree...I have a 2 year old and all of her stuff fits nicely in my 03 QC Dak 4x4. My wife has VW Golf with 4 doors and we hate trying to pack everything in there.

between my wife, my son and my dak i chose my dak, and bought my wife her own vehicle so now she rides with my son in her own truck and i ride in my own truck, if we go anywhere together, she rides in the back with the boy and i drive.

p.s. you could have gotten a tonneau cover for more space in the dak.

My truck looks like it was in a knife fight, and lost! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1275365

I might have bought another Dak had there been any '04 leftovers but the new design just wasn't doing it for me. I test drove three new Quads and didn't like any of them. The SRT 4 is better on gas, cheaper to insure and my monthly payment dropped. It was a no brainer, not to mention the wife is happier. When I need a truck again, I'll get one. For now, this 4 door Neon will do. Its a blast to drive.

I had a fiberglass tonneau cover on it. The Club Cab is what made it impossible. The baby seat fits quite nicely in the SRT 4 however.

Too funny.

Well at LEAST he got another Mopar. Although FWD from RWD/4WD is kind of a step down.

If you didn't have the TURBO Neon, I'd think you were even MORE crazy.

But them turbo Neons really get going after 30 or 40 or so.

I know I had flack before, but when I raced one from 3 stoplights in a row, I beat him to 40MPH every time. I could hear his BOV when he shifted too. Out of the hole, it just lagged and face it, FWD sucks for a launch. But at 40 he started to REALLY pull and I had no chance after that.

Unless I manage to get a Turbo for my 5000Lb brock :p

Graphite,

That guy must have been a bad driver because there's no way a Dakota will take me to 40mph. The FWD sucks for launches but the LSD makes it tolerable. My Dak would have got the jump off the line with little spinning if launched right but by the time I start to top 2nd in the SRT, the Dakota will be looking at tail lights. I've destroyed enough Hemi Rams to last a life time, mostly I think it's just fellow Mopar enthusiasts wanting to see the SRT 4 go, not really expecting to win. A stock WS6 tooled me though, they're fast and get off the line pretty decent and above 100mph, forget about it. They're beasts.

I dunno. Maybe my truck just takes off from a dead stop THAT MUCH BETTER.

Turbo or not turbo, the SRT NEON just doesn't give you wiplash from a dead stop like my 5000 LB Dak.

I had a better race from a dead stop from a turbo Jetta. And that was when I was stock.

But the Jetta couldn't pull me and we raced all the way to 80 or so. That's where I'd be looking at the Neon's tail lights.

Last two weeks at the race track I haven't seen hardly ANY SRT-4's bust mid 14 seconds. So they are not really all that fast. And those had aftermarket mods. Not sure how much, but they had some.
They don't launch very well but they zip once they get going.

Must be some poorly prepped tracks or high elevation? I had a best of 13.8 bone stock. The track is AT sea level, like you can see the ocean from the track so that helps with the turbo no doubt. Another stock SRT 4 hit a 13.7 as well. Those aren't super fast times by any stretch of the imagination but for a car with no mods and warranty, its pretty good. Perhaps if we were racing to 25mph, you could take me? ; )

The SRT4 is an awesome little car. It's not a truck, but its not supposed to be. The car weighs about two thirds what the Dakota does and the gas milage is much better, as well as the speed.

The stock SRT-4 will take almost any Dakota...think about it...The stage 2 upgrade gives the car how much more power over the stock level? Im guessing Selcher's 0-60 is around 5.6, and thats freakin fast. My Dakota will cost tens of thousands to do that. My truck is for being safe and haulin stuff when my family needs it. The SRT-4 is an awesome daily car that flies when you want it to. Both have their advantages to different drivers.

Im keepin my Dakota cuz it looks much better than a Neon, but those SRT-4's are freakin awesome, and i cannot say anything bad about it.

Actually I was going to say we ARE close to sea level being in the AZ valley. Not AT sea level, but no where NEAR mile high!!!!

I was going to mention I'd think a TURBO would have MORE of an advantage in higher altitude than a normal asperated engine. I notice a pretty big difference when I drive up to the AZ mountains with most cars. At least a turbo that has some controlling would probably not have much of a handicap in higher altitudes.

So I'd say down HERE where I now live was my best shot as any against anything with a turbo.

I know to 25 is no problem. But I'd say at 40 they just catch up. I don't know why that's hard to believe. After 40 I know I'm done.

"Im guessing Selcher's 0-60 is around 5.6, and thats freakin fast. My Dakota will cost tens of thousands to do that."
Alec, actually I don't know what you have. But that's not true. Duner has about $4k into his home brewed Turbo 4.7 and I've watched him spank Ford Lightings and destroy SRT-4's every time. He has run mid 12's and I've seen him run about 12.8 or so here close to where I live.

Of course he has a reg cab DAK and mine's a QC 4X4, so big diff. But it's not impossible to get a 13 second 4X4 if someone absolutley wants to do such a thing.

Now that's I just got the Superchips I seem to have some more balls, BUT it's really hard now to not rip the tires from a stop :(

4.10's and LSD I'll be good. Then maybe I'll get a SRT by a little more of a jump before he can catch up and pass my a$$!

Graphite,

I think the thing with a turbo at high elevation is that it doesn't really change anything, or at least not as drastically as it does for a N/A engine. Where a turbo will continue to perform, the N/A engine drops off significantly. At least thats my limited experience. I had the SRT up on the mountains (if you can call 1700 feet above sea level mountains) last weekend and I didn't notice any decrease in performance but a guy with an '05 Mustang GT was complaining of lack of power on the hills. Also, I killed a stock Dakota R/T Club Cab last night from a stop light. He got the jump, I was at his back bumper and had him by a length or two and was walking away from him when we shut down at 70mph. I love those trucks so much so it was bitter sweet if you know what I mean. I hope there are some of those around and in good shape in a few years, I'd love to have one. So much potential and they look awesome. I'll really miss the Dak once the snow falls.

The SRT-4 is built for speed over a big truck liek the Dakota, so its much more cost efficient to make the little car move quicker. Of course the 4.7 and 5.9 are a much better block to build on, but the truck still has to have much more power to surpass the little pocket rocket.

Random Comment: The Turbo Van makes me laugh everytime i think about it. Im so going to build one when i have my own garage some day.

I think the Stage III Turbo for the SRT-4 is coming out soon i think? Does anyone know? Selcher?

Turbo van. Is that site still up?

It's a 12 second caravan if I remember. he drives his family to the track and hauls ass whooping on a lot of people!

THAT would SUCK to lose to that!!!

Yup. the altitude kills. I routinely drive up to Payson and north of that. 5000 ft to 7000 ft.
My truck doesn't make a s big a difference as some other vehicles I've had. Higher compression seems to help a little I think. i.e. when I went to about 11:1 in my Mustang 302 I had less difference from the low altitude to the high altitude compaired to when it was at stock 8.4 : 1 or whatever. Of course it had an extra 100+ HP over stock too!

Selcher, you said the R/T got the jump. But you caught him but bet you had to get through the intersection before you started to match him.
that's all I'm saying.
After that far the SRT is caught up and pulling away. Not too mention the little aerodynamics differences in the two :p
