Could you swap out the 3.9L V-6 for the 3.5-liter High Output SOHC V6 producing 250 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque?

Well you may not want to swap out the V8 for the 3.5 V-6 but, if you have a 3.9L V-6 with 175HP and 225 ft. of torque you may want to do it if the engine is the only thing you have to buy. Swaping out the 3.9 for a V-8 doen't make financial sense.

My understanding from a discussion over at Allpar is that there aren't any major changes for '06.

My 5.9 liter gives me almost 20 mpg when I behave. All you need to do is add a cold air intake, a TB spacer a good exhaust system and keep your foot off the floor boards. I relize it hard to do sometimes.

I dont think any changes will be made until 2008. Dodge will then build a new larger V8 engine and put the R/T Tag back onto the Dakota. Since Mitsubishi is now building the Raider, a turbo might be used in both models. My guess is that in 2008, Dodge will release a new 5.0L engine that puts out 270 HP/320 Tq without the turbo...Add the turbo and you have a fast truck with almost 400 HP. I dont think there will be anything special under the hood of a Dakota...Too small. No V10, and no 5.7 or 6.1 liter Hemi. I think Dodge will design a new engine for all their larger vehicles and the Dakota might then be further upgraded to create a new R/T version (SRT-8 most likely) Just my opinion though...

As much as I love my Dodge's, the way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see them put a "slightly" louder exhaust on the 3.7 and call it an R/T. (and probably on a 4x4)

Only rumor I've heard is, DC dropping the 7/70
warrenty. 3/36, that's it! It's all your baby
after that.

Lets see how many DC sells when the public hears
about that! You might remember the 7/70 plan is
what saved DC in the first place.

Now how do you know there not planning to offer both of the two Hemi's? look how long it took to get one in the Ram 1500?? If sales keep slagging there going to have to think of somthing soon before it becomes a flop.

I'd like to see them offer a small diesel,
add the missing gauges back into the cluster,
do something about the homely center aluminum dash area,
add mp3 ability to the radio options,
tone down the ugly styling of the front bumper area,
and put the 7/70 warrenty back.

Until then, I'll be looking elsewhere when my 02 needs replacing.

The handwriting was on the wall for the 5.9 anyway. And sales are about consistent with the old model, in a year when almost everything else has been recently redesigned also; not usually considered "a flop".

Well, they do have that new diesel in the Jeep Liberty now.

Give it a little bump in torque and it might do well in a Dakota.

Would you buy another Dak??
IP: Logged

Message:
I currently own a 95 ext. cab with a sluggish 3.9. My work truck is a stripped down 3.7 and it's got some zip to it. I'm thinking of MAYBE getting a new Dak but after reading all the problems you folks have and my own experiences with my Dak., I'm wondering if that's the right way to go. I've looked at other brand forums and I don't see problems like I see here. Brand new trucks breaking down, dealers that can't fix them or won't fix them. I mean, A new Dak costs some serious coin and I feel that it may not be the best investment or choice to make. How about YOUR opinion.

Chevy is known for bad rear ends, loose pistons, and other problems. I think Ford has the worst quality control, when I worked on the turnpike's emergency service patrol I saw more problems with new Fords than anything else, had to call for a hook for 3 F150s in one day. Every brand has problems, what you'll also find here are solutions.

That I-4 Turbodiesel in the 2006 Liberties are being borrowed from the Dodge Sprinter vans...haha. Those engines are pretty cool though. Maybe Dodge will creaet a V8 turbodiesel that will be an option for all larger DC vehicles....at least a V6...220/350 doesnt sound bad at all.
