Ok please don't flip out when you read this. I need to do a tune up on my mothers 98 Toyota with the 2.7 liter I'm wondering what plugs to use on it. I need to know what brand to use as well as wires.

Thanks,
Aaron

any standard 4 cylinder wires and plugs will do, i would buy either the bosch, ngk or the autolite platinum plugs, and the bosch wire sets are not bad either, but if you are looking for ricer performance parts the moroso or momo parts are i think okay, i'm not to sure what other parts you can get for a ricer vehicle as i do not own one myself.

Plug information should be on a label under the hood. It's also in the owner's manual.
Since this is mom's car/truck/forklift/whatever, and assuming you want to remain in mom's good graces, I suggest a trip to the Toyota parts department for the plugs, just to make sure you get the right ones (write down the VIN and take it with you). While you're there, find out the recommended replacement mileage for the wires, UNLESS the engine has coils that feed two spark plugs. If that's the case, the plug wires may be sealed to the coil, and not replaceable separately. My '98 Tacoma 3.4L is this way, and it's something the parts guys should be able to verify for the 2.5L engine.

Hi again Mason - and wrong again, this time about the plugs. Only buy at the Toyota dealer if you want to pay to much. I had 2 Toy pickups before, both ran great on autolights; they're not real fussy and will likely run fine on whatever brand you choose (although personally, I avoid champions).

Ok I find this amusing cuz I just came off the post about the tires size and the sport model and that good stuff. I'm also amused about the forklift thing...sorry I thought it was funny. But yea I would never by from the dealer unless I absolutely have because of $.

Hi back at you, Kowalski.
I try to be right, it just doesn't always work out.
Don't mind being corrected, though - I learn faster that way.
Now, I don't normally recommend any dealership parts department. I've seen the NAPA delivery truck deliver stuff that owners have to pay Dealership markup prices for.
In this case, Dakattack98 asked in this forum about the spark plugs, rather than using a local auto parts store that could cross-reference different brands and heat ranges. I just figured he'd be better off with piece-of-mind, knowing he has the right plugs for his mom's car/truck/forklift/whatever.
It was a judgement call.

Yeah, didn't mean to slam you, just wanted to set the record straight. One good thing I'll say about a Toyota dealership, they were decent enough to tell me my cracked y-pipe at over 70,000 miles was covered by the federal emissions warranty since it was ahead of the cat. I prefer Mopars, but I've never heard of a Dodge dealer helping someone like that; all too often we hear of them charging for stuff like that which should be covered.

Probably the best way... go to Autozone or O'reillys or an equivalent and see what they have for the car. I would bet that the car is not used for racing, so any decent plug and wire set will do. Any of the major auto parts stores will have the info in their computers to get it running good. And if you are not looking for performance, then leave the platinum and equivalent plugs alone. I would be your mom just wants it to be dependable.
