Subject: Bull Bar Saves my truck again...

from my own dumb ass. I rearended a lady yesterday,,,,brakes locked,,,skidded into her Mazda Millenia. Wasn't too bad,,probably under 10mph when I hit her,,as she really only had paint damage. My Bull bar took all the impact perfectly. Infact it just knocked it right off,,only a small scuff mark where the dirt got brushed off my bumper. My truck basically had no damage. The bar was smashed on one side,,and the hangars are FUBAR'd,,but I was utterly amazed at how well that little bar stood up to the impact. I literally ripped it off w/one hand and threw in the back of the truck. That thing has saved me from people in parking lots,,,my little brother wrecking it,,and now me. Definitely getting another Westin Bull bar!
What happened was we were going under an overpass,,,,I was behind her, and we had a green light. We're not going fast but she stops on a dime for an Ambulance that blew threw the intersection w/out it's lights or siren going - just flew through,,,and because of the overpass ramp underneath was invisible to me until the last second. When I think about it, if the lady hadn't of stopped I would probably have been creamed. I wasn't speeding or tailgating,,just a brief moment that I wasn't paying attention - plus I wanna blame the ambulance too a little,,helps the ego. Brakes suck royal on my '01. Like I hit ice. Hopefully it won't go on my insurance.

Sorry for the rant - just wanted to give mad props to Westin Bull Bars.

Peace,,and safe driving to ya'll.....

Glad to hear that you were not hurt! Good to hear that the Westin Bull bar did it's job as I have one on my '01 QC. I always figured if I rear ended someone with the bull bar, I would hopefully be able to drive my truck home! I have to agree with you on the brakes that suck, seems like any time I brake hard the rear ABS kicks in way to easily. Especially if the brakes get wet. It's annoying! Got any pics of the damage?

She only had paint damage; but it knocked the bull bar off ? What kind of testimonial is that ? Expect an insurance surcharge...

I'm one of the 5 people in Austin who do not 'yack' on the phone when I drive - my commute is too short to risk my life. I'm not that big of a hypocrite either. "shut up and drive"

Anywho - the repair bill on her Millenia was $1,150,,I just paid it myself to avoid the insurance. Visibly - only the paint on the outside was damaged. Apparently all the 'impact-absorbing' $hit was messed up underneath. Plus those cars have a two piece rear bumper that wraps around,,so it's all getting replaced. The lady was older,,,,40+ I imagine,,real nice. She was super cool,,so I trust her. Got the estimate from a shop I'm familiar with so I'm not worried.

The accident was my fault. Like i said,,,it was low speed we had a car length plus of space between us - Ambulance blew through the intersection - we had a green. I was scoping SOMETHING OUT,,,forgot what it was now,,but my fault. It happens to everyone,,don't care who you are, we all mess up.
The bull bar - upon closer inspection when I got home - has a noticeable dent in it so I likely won't use that one again,,, (I'll try to remember to get some pic.s),,it's not bad really. Tightened the bolts on my bumper,,,my truck is fine. These bull bars don't have holes that bolts go through,,,the slide into place so you don't have to take the bumper all the way off. Not the strongest thing,,but apparently strong enough to protect at low speed. An extra crumple zone if you will. Still gonna buy another one.
