I posted before about a test drive in April under the name "Northern VA" in case anyone remembers me.
Anyways, today I test drove 2 dakotas, and one a month ago, then the one before that (all 4.7s). I have to say that the first one I drove had a problem. It was a DOG. Second one was much better, but it got sold to someone else. Third one was the best. It was a '01 SLT CC 4x4 4.7L. The only thing that caught my attention was when shifting from P or N to R,D,2, or 1, the truck would jerk forward (or back in R). My guess was that the torque converter was locking at a lower RPM than the others. Any Ideas? BTW. The second one I drove today (4th so far) was a dog, but not as bad as the first. I think that it might have had the death flash. Sorry if this is confusing to read.

When the vehicle jerks with gear changes, there could be a few things wrong. But with a Dodge truck, my first guess would be the differential. With the trans in park, and the parking break set, reach up there and grab the drive shaft. You should not be able to move it back and forth except for a very slight amount. And I do mean slight. The pinion flange should not move more than about 1/32".
