Below is a link to pics of my 2005 Dakota Laramie 4X4.
I took them at dusk, so they aren't perfect.
There's also 2 pics of my 2001 Dakota Sport 4X4 that I traded on it.

The 2001 had 4.7, Borla, K@N, Hypertech, Power Locks and Windows, tilt/cruise, rear slider, RhinoLiner, %40 tint, Tonneau, Towing Pkg, auto-dim rear mirror, compass/info center, built-in garage opener.

The 2005 came with Heated Leather Buckets, 6-Disc in-dash CD/MP3, Infinity Sound System, tilt/cruise, power seat/windows/locks, AWD, Anti-spin Diff., 4.7, 4WD lock, 17" Chrome wheels, Towing Pkg., Auto-dim rear mirror, heated side mirrors, built-in garage opener.

Since the pictures last week, I had the 2005 windows tinted %20 and the dealer had to put in a tinted rear slider as part of the buy. The exhaust will be very soon because it needs some sound. The RhinoLiner will follow the exhaust.

I'm sure your proud of your new D body Dakota.. But the C body sure had much better wheel travel than these new 05 modles.. Also did you get a 5 speed auto or manuel? Hi ouput 287?

The 5 speed auto.
I got the standard 4.7, not the High Output.

Thanks for the compliments.

Oddly enough, when I traded the '01 on the '05 they sat right beside each other in the lot and they were the same exact height. But I swear that looking at the '05, it appears lower... Must be the 17's.

I parked next to an '03 at work on Friday, noticed the same thing. The '05 has a little less ground clearance (1/2", I think), but the cab and bedline are pretty much the same height. It seems lower, I think, because the body extends further down over the chasis - I think that did that for better sound insulation.

Nope, I STILL can't get use to the butt ugly front
end and the cheap looken interior..

Maybe the 06's well look better. But now I'm
wondering if I'll buy any DC product, car, van or
truck now that DC is dropping its 7/70 plan.

3/36 is NOT enough when DC has MANY MANY issues to
deal with like trannys, ball joints, you know the
stuff they TRY and hide.

@RAdio man

Of course think about it.. If you offer a better warranty than your competition like GM or Ford. Sure you can still there customers if they think you going to stand by you product in which they almost don't unless theres some recalls here and there. But of course when the money runs a bit lower though out the company due to repair coast they have to retract there deal until sales get low.

What the odds of GM offering a 7/70??

@ Travis B.

Beware of the low ground clearance.. Its the front end you need to worry about not the rear axal.. Very low approach angles to deal... And yes I seen one being pulled out of a wash out in the trail

Congrats on the PU Travis. To the comment on the spending more on your house than your car LMAO. When I was stationed at FT carson we rented a Mobile, I swear about every driveway had a car parked in it that cost more than the house they lived in. Hey when you went to pick out your PU did they have much in the ST line? I keep pricing my local dealers but they never have a base model (at least that they will tell you about) in stock. I wish I could afford the nicer 4x4 but its base (with a couple of upgrades)or nothing for me!

Hummmm....

I spent 23,900 out the door on the Dakota, not near what the house costs. Benefits from family working at Chrysler.

To help with your obvious jealousy issues, take these tips:
1. Grow up and ask mommy and daddy if you can move out into your own home now that your over 30 and still living in the basement.

2. Get a job. No, not the McDonald's job that only pays enough for you to pay the insurance on the truck mommy and daddy bought you.

To the others who commented on the truck, thank you. I really enjoy it.

"nugsfan",
I initially wanted the SLT, but the dealer didn't have an SLT in the CC with 4X4 and V8, they only had the Quadcab. I don't have a need for the Quad yet and the truck I bought was an early 2005 build and had been on the lot for a while so they were discounting 2K off of sticker. With the discounts from Chrysler and the family purchase plan, I decided to go with it.

Travis.

I'm still getting used to the new style too. The truck did come with the 7/70 powertrain warranty and I opted for the 5/100 bumper to bumper.

The main reason I traded the '01 is because I had the 7/75 on it and the tranny went at 75,600 miles.
I was lucky enough that Service Contracts honored the warranty still and fixed the tranny, but with no warranty left afterwards, I was leary of keeping the '01.
I didn't want to buy used and inherit someone else's problem, so I went new.
My 2001 definitely felt more powerful and truck-like, but I am hoping the '05 will grow on me as I drive it more.

Ok great,

I think the hmmm guy or was either James Lease or Jansey (could there be a Relation?)

Do you go on any off-road trips like me?? I usaly roll over some serious washouts on the trail.. I just recenlty got a 02 dakota last year and I'm haveing some fun with it.. I'm using 17"

The main reason I'm staying away from the new D-body is becuase of poor aproch angles and short wheel travel.. If you just going to use it as a street cruiser or exlpore some smooth trails then you shouldn't have any problems..

Also what happend to your transmission??? 45REF??

Mines a NV-3500 HD.. But I here the 545REF is a big improvment over the 4 speed.

Joe C.

I use 4Wheel Drive for winter driving and some small mud and trail when taking the dirtbike into the mountains. If I trailed, I definitely would have issues with the ground clearance on the new '05.

As far as the Tranny on the '01, The computer started getting errors from the tranny and they ended up having to completely rebuild the transmission. It was the second time the tranny did this. First time was at 15K miles. The symptoms were that the truck would only drive in 3rd gear and wouldn't switch out, neither down or up. The dealership said that it is designed to do that once the computer gets errors from the tranny.

I still miss the '01, especially when I go to pass someone on a two-lane highway. The transmission in the '05 shifts GREAT and is much smoother, but it takes longer to downshift into passing gear.
Also, the power seems less than my '01.
Maybe after I add some things to it, she'll perk up a bit.

The reason why your Dakota does not have the same amout of power is because it gained more weight.

Yep, isn't it something like 300lbs more? Mostly because of the doors on CC models, QC models are close in weight to the previous model.

Did you leave the Hypertech programmed in the 01 or what did you do with it?

Also the trucks is a bit bulker than the C-body.

Travis,

So you was starting off in 3rd?? Looks like to me that could be safty cocern if that happens if you pulling a 3 ton boat and starting from a stop on a 4 way intersection.

Its to bad they couldn't just reprogram the computer and fix the problem form there.

Jansey, I didnt' realize the weight changed that much, that makes sense though. It still seems to hesitate when trying to make a pass, unlike the 2001 which would downshift quick.

Caulk, I sold the Hypertech chip to my friend who has a 2000 Dak. I also sold him the nerf bars, vent visors, CD Player, and Bug Guard. It was nice having a friend with the same basic truck. I only wish I would've taken the Borla exhaust off before trading it. Kinda sucks losing that.

STS, It was strange starting in 3rd. I would floor it and it bogged like hell. If I had been pulling something, that would not have been good.
I tried having them reflash the computer to fix it, but they said it wouldn't work because the "actuators" or something like that, had to be fixed. Sounded like BS to me, but I was lucky that warranty covered it.

I still miss the '01. I hope I get used to the '05. I'm sure I will.
