I recently wrecked my 98 dakota rc short bed. I am desperately piecing her back together. After the wreck i drove it from the garage where i was working on it to my house and the cruise control won't work. Is this a safety feature or just some cruel trick to make you get new airbags. I am royally ticked because I can't get that turd to hold onto it's speed. The cable on the engine is intact so I can rule out that possibility. Any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone knows of a place I can find some frame repair stuff it would make my year. Thanks.

Greg, if your air bags went off in the crash,
cruise won't work. You gotta have error codes
logged into the computer listing that fault.

You better hope you don't get pulled over for an
inspection. They will hault you driving it on
the spot when they see the air bags are gone.

Play it safe Greg.. Do it right.. Lifes too short
as it is. Don't drive an unsafe Dakota.

sorry greg it is not a cruel trick but a requirement by the NHSTB. if the airbag goes off, almost all of the components must be replaced, both the bag and the airbag control module and the clockspring, the bad clockspring is why the cruise don't work, and I would not want to be they buying your used vehicle as it is just plain not a good idea to not have good airbags in it,
every state in the union REQUIRES that you have insurance, make a claim and get them to pay for it. That is what insurance is for, If you need frame work you also need a frame alignment table, and that'll cost you about 10 grand new or maybe 3/5 grand used.

according to chilton's:
The system is NOT repaiable at home. The system must be diagnosed and repaired by your dealer OR a reputable shop. (concerning the Air Bag Control Module) This unit is not servicable and must be replaced if, the airbag has gone off, or if it has been damaged or diagnosed defective.
After an airbag has been deployed, the airbag module and the clockspring must be replaced because they cannot be reused. Other airbag components must be replaced if Damaged.

Poor Greg. You guys ar enot giving him bad advice but c'mon, THOUSANDs of CARS And TRUCKS out there do not have air bags and its not like someone is bound to die in them just because of that. The guys is fixing his own truck to save $$ and an airbag fix is over $1000. SO his choice is 1) no transportation 2) transportation but no airbag (until maybe a later date).
