This summer I want to upgrade my front brakes on my 99 SLT 5.2L. As it is right now I am facing yet another warping issue with the aftermarket parts from the local parts store.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some names and some ideas on what rotors and brake pads to go with?

thanks

Not a lot of viable choices, and a whole lot of mis-information.

First off, are you sure your current rotors are warped? Have you actually placed a dial indicator on them and checked run out? Run out should be less than .004. If you haven't checked, you could have another issue. Throwing money at your brakes may not help.

Second, go to Wilwood and Baer Brakes web sites and read what they have to say about drilled and slotted rotors, brake pads, and brakes in general.

Third, carefully evaluate what kind of driving you do and how you will use your brakes. Your highway commuter has differant needs than your mountain tow vehicle.

Optimally, you'de want a solid faced rotor with internal directional vanes, brake cooling ducts, larger rotors, multi-piston calipers, and pads to match your driving needs. That's optimal. Unfortunatly, it's also very expensive. So you need to balance all that and pick what's right for you.

Or, you can simply go to Autozone and get some replacement Brembo rotors and Performance Friction carbon fiber pads. After doing all the research, that's what I'll eventually do; they are very effective, inexpensive, and easy to change. But at 70K miles, I still have plenty of pad left, and nice flat rotors with run out well within specs (.002).

ZoSo, I just bought a set of "Street Heat" rotors (cross drilled) and Raybestos pads from Pep Boys for $130. Installed yesterday. Also a 99 5.2L 4wd w/ 53,000 miles, bought used last fall. I've been feeling pulsating when braking and figured I might as well just replace all. Passenger side was worn evenly, driver side rotor and inside pad was pitted and had uneven wear. Too early to really evaluate but it's smooth braking as of now.

DB,

Let me know in a few days how that set up is working out. I am interested in the same type of setup that you have.

thanks
