Subject: let's talk spray on bed liners...again
IP: Logged

Message:
the best price i can find is RHINO, but there is an idependent dealer called alpha liner who is close in price. and alpha liner claims to spray on a thicker coat, more then rhino and lineX.

ive heard the black starts to fade with rhino and their website says to use one of their products to keep it looking good.

i dont have a specific question, i just wanted some more opinions.

thanks

Yes the Rhino fades to a grey/black color. I have not used their stuff on it, but it is supposed to work well. My Rhino is about 1/4 inch thick, and I really like it. If you get it, the go with the lining that covers the bedrails, wish I did.

I've got a Rhino, and it's faded. My buddy has LineX and it's not faded.

Of the two, LineX is thinner and isn't as rugged as the Rhino.

I kind of wished I went LineX, and went over the rails with it.

I have Line-X and I love it. It is better then Rhino but Rhino is also good. Line-X was hauling 40 Cement blocks less then 15min. after the Line-X done. I would also like to say that is you want and awesome exhaust tone just put 40 cements blocks in the bed. Just kidding. But it works.

I'm partial to Line-x, had it in my 98 dak and the first thing I did when I picked up my 05 was to have line-x put in. For my use, its rugged enough and it looks great. I've never had a problem with peeling or fading of the liner either.

RHINO has the best warranty. Some liner brands require you to
take it back to the dealer that sprayed it in order to have any
warranty work done.

RHINO has a nationwide warranty and you DO NOT have to take
it back to the dealer that sprayed in the liner.

I LOVE MY RHINO !

If you plan on putting a camper shell or tonnou(??) cover on I've heard its not a good idea to go over the rail. I went over the rail, but I'm not planning to put either on. I have a Wolf liner, bacically a Rhino, but not as textured.

thanks for the replies.

i going to go check out the alpha liner shop and depending on how much i like it, i might pay the extra 100 and get line X. but then again i dont plan on using my truck for major projects or really heavy hauling...so may be alpha will be fine.

oh, and im excited...i just ordered my 360 air intake...hopefully i can pick it up tomorrow!!

I've got a RhinoLiner that's about 2 years old. It's a little faded but after a good wash it brightens up. Rhino has a special cleaner that's supposed to work well although I haven't tried it. They warn NOT to use anything with silicone in it which I suppose means ArmorAll or the stuff you use on tires. I'm still looking for a cleaner that'll work AND is cheaper than the Rhino brand ($16/pint)

I'm a LINE-X dealer.

LINE-X and Rhino differ quite a bit. The biggest difference is that LINE-X contains polyurea and Rhino does not. Polyurea enhances the bedliner’s properties: 1. LINE-X's temperature tolerance is 250 degrees and Rhino's is 175. As the temperature of the bed approaches the temp tolerance, it loses its strength. 2. Polyurea keeps moisture out of the solution thus making a more dense and solid liner. Less moisture also means better adhesion. 3. Polyurea also makes for a tougher liner. The tear strength of LINE-X is 304 pounds per linear inch (pli). Rhino is 145 pli. 4. Polyurea sets up very fast, that's one reason why LINE-X goes on with heat and high pressure. LINE-X dries in about 4 seconds, so you get an even application throughout the bed. Rhino takes a minute or so to even gel, an hour or so to dry. Before it gels, gravity can pull the liner from the top ridges in to the low valleys. Rhino’s Tuff Stuff goes on cold/low pressure and thus has that “cottage cheese” or “rain on the windshield” look. LINE-X’s high heat/high pressure system gives it a very nice finished and more consistently applied texture, it’s sort of like an orange peel. The dealer can vary the texture from smooth to very rough. 5. Polyurea makes the liner more chemical resistant, especially to organic oils and solvents.

LINE-X offers a written nationwide lifetime warranty. Rhino’s warranty is only with the dealer that sprayed it.

Here's a little more about the chemistry:
There are ONE-part polyurethane products (also referred to as “solvent based”). One-part means that the polyurethane is suspended in a solvent. A catalyst is added which starts a chemical reaction that removes the solvent so that you have just polyurethane left. The catalyst can be a liquid chemical or even just air. Examples of today’s one-part polyurethanes include many of the do-it-yourself products like Herculiner, Duplicolor, and Durabak. A better technology is TWO-part polyurethanes. Two-part means that a resin (usually a polyol resin) is mixed with isocyanate (a hardener) which renders the polyurethane. Two-part polyurethanes are harder and much more durable than one-part polyurethanes. Examples of today’s products that use two-part polyurethanes include LINE-X and Rhino.

Let me know if you have any questions! Lots of info at my website: www.linexfortworthtexas.com

i heard that you could get a spray in bed-liner and mix some paint (the color of your truck)with it and it would come out glossy and is very durable.

one of my dads friends has a 32 ford with an LT1 and has this done under his fenders to keep it from scratching. it looks great and he said that it doesnt peal and you can clean it by wiping it with a rag.

i dont know what kind of liner he used but i do know that a paint store, like caddo paint, do it for him.

Interesting info, David. I had a friend of my Dad's (also a customer at his shop) who had a Rhino liner sprayed on locally on one of his trucks. The guy did heating and air conditioning installation. Within a year, he had ripped the Rhino liner to the steel.

I have one question for you though, David. I'm not sure if you are local to me (odds would be you're not), but would your dealership spray just the rails of my '04 Dakota? I already have the Mopar under-rail bedliner, but no rail protection makes the rails vulnerable to scratching. I didn't want an over the rail because they buckle in the hot sun, and look like crap when they buckle.

Well, I'm in Wicenburg Arizona, but thanks for the tip that just the rails can be done... I might want to invest in that.

If I ever head out to Texas before I can get it done here, I'll drop you a line though. It's a longshot though.
